Seems very sixer like.  Think Turner and Hawes trades.

Ish Smith is quietly having a very good season.  14 pts / 5 reb / 9 asst per 36 with a 17.0 PER.  That's a solid starting NBA point guard for you.

Great move by the Sixers.

He's 27 and until the last two seasons with horrible Philly and New Orleans teams has struggled to get off the bench.  This is the sort of guy who has just enough talent and discipline to hang around the league until, in his prime, he fools some team into paying him way more than he's worth.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Ish Smith is a decent point guard. So is Kendall Marshall- but Marshall is going to need another 3 months to get into game shape like his pre injury self.

I don't think the 76ers fanbase understand how good Ish Smith is.

This is a good move for them.
I think we'll see more moves like this and the Landry move.

They also worked out John Lucas so he'll possibly be added.

They have the bottom seed locked up, so why not help the development of their studs and get some real NBA players in there to show them a real work ethic for the remaining 50% of the season?

Just having some guys on the floor that can help run the offense smoothly will do wonders for their youngins'. They are still tanking and have bottom spot locked up regardless.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

1-0.  though that seems more to be about Landry returning than anything else as he had a +18 (as did Marshall).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Just looked at this move finally. Really poor deal for the Sixers. They gave up a pick in the 30s in each of the next two drafts for a 2016 UFA. This stinks like Colangelo, D'Antoni and Brown desperately trying to add a 'veteran presence'. In other words, Sam Hinkie would never have done this on his own accord.

I don't think it's un-Sixer like. It's not like they gave up major assets anyway in two 2nd rounders and they get another cheap potential. IMO, potential for cheap is all about what the Sixers are trying to find, with rookies and these signings. Unproven guys who could blow up to be something. Anyway, I never really liked Wroten anyway. He strikes me as someone highly inefficient but got some stats because someone had to get stats. Meanwhile, before Tyreke came back, Ish Smith was playing terrific. Now he's collecting DNP's. It's a win for all parties involved. Except Wroten.
Wroten.  He is probably the biggest winner.  He will end up on a better team.  Either some one will claim him or he will sign as a free agent.  10 teams can claim him.  They are in order: BKN, POR, MIN, MIL, UTH, WAS, MIA, OKC, CLE, GSW.  Any one of those teams is better than Philly and I would be surprised if at least one of them didn't put a claim in.  Brooklyn stands out as a team that could use a guy on the bench that can get to the line (Wroten for all his faults is a pretty good foul shot generator).  Besides they just need players.
as with everything 76ers you were wrong

the sixers spent a few second round picks to improve their team this year and people think this is a mistake for a team who has a total of 2 wins so far this year? these are second round choices, not real, certifiable, guaranteed, high likelihood success, golden assets.

the team is filled with such players as found in the second round NOW and the team stinks.

the likelihood of either second round pick turning out to be as good as ish smith is very low. the odds of those picks turning out to be as good as ish smith next year are next to zero.

philly has assets and is willing to use them.

hinkiesanity is on its way out, thank god.

This notion that 2nd round picks are worthless is really dim. It has nothing to do with Sam Hinkie. Have you seen Isiash Thomas play lately? Or Dramond Green? Now how about Anthony Bennett? or Hasheem Thabeet?

For a team playing for nothing in 2016, it doesn't make sense to trade draft assets for a guy who can sign anywhere in a couple of months.

But -- I will say this: it could be that trading for Smith will significantly improve Noel's game. They developed a really good rapport last season, and even just in last night's game Noel's improvement showed. For more, read the quotes in here:

http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2602290-ish-smith-to-76ers-latest-trade-details-comments-and-reaction

And if that proves true, it will' expectations been at least a justifiable reason to do the deal.

Bringing back Ish Smith was a good move, but yes, definitely not a Hinkie move.

Smith is a good facilitator of the team offense and a real PG, not a combo guard. This has been what Philly has lacked for a while now, outside of the ~25 games he played with Philly last year. He won't add many wins to their record, but what he will do is help the offense flow better and aid in the development of the Sixers young core players.

One of the biggest reasons this team has been so putrid has been the lack of any real PG, so I applaud whoever was responsible for this decision.

I find it funny that all of a sudden Ish Smith is a "great" player, but last year on the Sixers he was a scrub and was terrible.  Amusing to me.
He's ok. I think the trade was more about getting an actual ball handler. Someone who can actually somewhat run an offense.

Two 2nd rounders for Ish Smith seems like an overpay, especially if they are the 76ers own future 2nd rounders (aka very high 2nd rounders). But they did get a win last night...

No one thinks ish is a great player. He is and was a scrub. However he is better than anyone else the sixers can throw out there.

Are you suggesting that he is not a scrub?

You cant really play the angle that us C's fans have just been riding philly players cus they play for philly. Us C's fans have been riding philly cus philly is historically terrible ove the past 3 years.

No one is underrating your sixers they just suck ass
