Young strikes me as a guy who can attack the rim on the swing of the ball and shoot with range and his defense is improving.  He is a classic swing man.  I think between him, Crowder and Hunter we are really set at the wings going forward.  We are set at guard too imo.  We could use another big man to go with Kelly and Sully.  Amir and Lee have been more than serviceable though.  We could use a superstar SF as wel as I dont think Young is that but he should be really good imo.

I'm not overly concered with the superstar label. This is just the media drumming up nonsense imo.  I'm more concerned with how ainge is going to use all these draft picks without screwing up our current core.  We  have guys who can score and elevate their games in the roles we have our team as is is going to continue to get better and better.  We are still very young.

livingston posted him up and scored and then he didn't hustle back iguodala blew in for break away -james hit a three and a pullup-young 5pts defence 4-
good defence on livingston rookie error on getting back-
beginning 2nd quarter barbosa just blows by for two-ouch
minutes later barbossa gets young in air gets open look on three-didn't go
young goes to basket misses floater-nice move ,just didn't go

Yep, he is still a big defensive liability---but looking like he cares which is new and an improvement.  Future starter did not cross my mind.  I was wondering would he still get minutes once RJ is back? :o

Outside of a few minor hiccups and I mean everybody on the team had a hiccup or two,  young played solid D

Impressed by his improved lateral quickness and his length bothered  players.

Not minor hiccups Tommy H chastised him for not sprinting back and Barbosa toyed with him.

Did that only happen to young??

Young is clearly still a work in progress, but keep in mind that Barbosa has made a career out of doing that to people.  He's one of the more dangerous guards in the league on the fast break.

Yes when Tommy was upset about a lack of effort trying to run down GS breaks he was talking about James Young--and after a stint on Barbosa, in the first half, Stevens had someone else run with Barbosa.

James Young the last two games has played by far the best I have seen him play--he actually looks comfortable out there.  But a caption "Future Starter"? is ridiculous.  Who would he displace.  I believe that both RJ and Terry are still ahead of him and they don't really deserve minutes.

Both Livingston and Barbosa are very crafty veterans. In time he  will learn to defend them better.

He's definitely better defensively than last year, actually can stay in front of them now. He still gets stuck in screens a lot though.

And his quick 5 points were good for us, helped us stay in the game while golden state was on a run after our early lead. Also gives him more confidence moving forward.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

That is least two years off ...if it happens and if he sticks with Celtics .

I think he as improved enough and has enough years left to " make it"

Looked kinda iffy there for a while, I was holding my breathe .   I think he made it over the BUST hump.

He is worth at least an early second round late first pick.

His catch an shoot is about 3/10 sec too slow to my eye.

Needs a lot of practice.

I'm actually completely Shocked that he is getting prime playing time---Good for us--and good for him or his trade value---The guy CAN play.

The only issue is, where do you insert him in the rotation, especially once Smart gets back? He does look like he's starting to deserve more minutes, but I wonder if staying in Maine the rest of this year is still his best option for working on his game rather than very spot minutes in the C's lineup.
Recovering Joe Skeptic, but inching towards a relapse.

Once smart comes back he will compete for the probably 10 or so minutes allotted to him rozier and hunter. Will be interesting to see if anyone can take a big step and seperate themselves from the froup. It looked like hunter had done that but now young is playing well

Young still looks like a rookie to me on defense, which he should. He's only played 38 NBA games in his life and he's 20 years old.

I was encouraged, though, that he looked like he's making progress on defense and feeling more comfortable on the offensive end, too. I expect, if he's still with the team, he'll be a viable rotation player next season and bucking for starters minutes the year after, when he'll still only be 22 years old. As long as he keeps working, there's no reason to think he won't be exactly what we thought he could be when drafted.

So many people on here are complete rookies themselves.

If someone is on our team and they are suppose to have a ton of potential then you do your own research and keep up. But when posters say he should go back to Maine....why? His rookie year he killed it there and gave us a glimpse of what he could mature into with better D and iq. An opposing D league coach said he was the best player he had seen in his years coaching in the d-league, and wondered why he was not getting development in the NBA.

When you have a prospect like James and he is ready to develop in the NBA for 20min a game......you make it happen. NBA development is the best course of action for Young and when Smart comes back I hope we make some trades to free the space up. CBS knows what he is doing and he coaches to win, so playing Young in that type of game(and at 3 even against Iggy the Finals MVP) means something.

Many people think of him as a 3 but he really is a 2, just on a team with no height on the wing. Our future backcourt could be Smart and Young: thats a big back-court, with elite length. a legit 3 point shooter next to Smart and someone who allows him to play the point full time on D and offense....that would be special

The sooner you boys admit JYoung is a Bust the better. He did nothing vs Golden St on either end.

Cut your losses and move on from this wasted pick..
