I have said this multiple times since the draft.  It was very very likely it was for Porzingis.  It makes far to much sense to not have been the case.  There was no way the Celtics were blowing all of those picks on Winslow but there is very good reason to have done so on Porzingis.  Best guess is it was something like this and even could still have included Washington.

Boston:  Porzingis and Calderon

N.Y.:      Kaminsky and Bradley with possibly Zeller or Turner or Sully

Atllanta: Hardaway and 2 2nd round picks(possibly from Wa.)

Charlotte: #15, #16, #28 and a future pick maybe even Brooklyn 2018

Bummer.  Would've been awesome to see that happen.

Imagine having Winslow, Kristaps, Hezonja, or maybe Cauley-Stein already on board right now with the 2016 Nets pick coming down the pike . . . ah well.
Are you sure the Nets pick wasn't going out in the trade?

That's the big issue here - the overall value of this trade would've depended upon the exact picks we were giving up.

giving up 4 1st rounders seems like we r putting all are eggs in 1 basket

i wonder who ainge was targeting

my guess is winslow as ainge generally doesnt like international players
but imagine if we ended up with mudiay or porzingis

the 1st rounders were probably #16 and #28 + nets pick + dallas

i doubt ainge would give up 2 nets 1st rounders as well as their own 1st rounder
plus dallas 1st rounder has more value than memphis cuz of their decline

which Nets pick is the key.  If it was 2016 then that would have been a terrible trade (even at the time, I think that would have been the case, because the Nets were presumably always going to have their worst team this season).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I think there's been speculation about which picks would be included.  I recall the term "a future Nets pick" being used, and I have to assume it was the 2018 pick, or the 2017 pick swap right.

That makes the most sense.  Trading the 2016 pick along with three other picks would be an enormous overpay, even without the benefit of knowing just how bad the Nets have been so far this year.

This is what I've generally thought as well, but boy, if it was the 2016 pick...

I would assume it would have been for WCS.

I don't think Winslow is worthy of a top 4 pick.  He looks very much like a (slightly better offensively) MKG to me - and while MKG is a nice player, his play has not justified such a high pick.

In today's league (were we place so much value in athletic bigs who can defend the rim and the perimeter) I feel that WCS has more upside and more value than Winslow.  Wing guys who can defend pretty good are pretty much a dime a dozen in this league - we have three of them ourselves.

On the other hand 7-foot athletic freaks with future All-Defensive Team potential are not quite so common.

I think Winslow is going to be a solid player, and I think he'll prove worth of a top 10 pick...but I don't think he'll ever be good enough that you would look back and say "yep, I'd have used #4 on him".

Like how the FBI release details 40 years after controversial events, I do hope Danny writes a book one day and we can put all this speculating to bed.

If it had been for WCS that would have been such a let down to me. I get that he'll be an elite defender but that pick would have the chance to produce an elite scorer, which is what all championship teams are predicated around. Hezonja, Porzingis, Okafor if he'd fallen would have all fit the bill

Winslow would've been really interesting on this team but it would've been another great defender who can't create his own shot.

Porzingis would be really interesting on this Celtics roster right now.
