That book is a fun read.

The one I listed, or were you referring to something else?  I actually found Pearlman's book in a library in the next town over and took it out, but I was really only looking for bits and pieces of information, so I didn't read the whole thing, but it did look like an entertaining tale.  I loved the part about how Riley had everyone compiling these statistical models or whatever for him even though it wasn't their job, and when a new front office guy, iirc, was hired, he just said, "I'm not doing this sh!t," lol ;D. He was also the same guy who said that Riley equated basketball games to a struggle of good and evil of biblical proportions with quotes and all that kind of stuff that he'd put on posters or something, and the new dude was like, "it was beyond ridiculous," haha ;D. What a moron.  Seriously, bro, it's just basketball ::).

I don't love Kukoc, but I kinda like him.

I loved it when he swished that buzzer beater in the playoffs when Pippen was on the bench crying and sulking.

Suddenly Pippen was replaceable player that nobody would ever look at the same way again.

Well, yeah.  I mean, when you have the immortal Jo Jo English (sarcasm) getting Derek Harper suspended for TWO PLAYOFF GAMES - wow :o - who needs Scottie Pippen (sarcasm) ::) ;D? I always thought that Pippen was a punk who got away with bumping guys as they dribbled up the court like Magic and Mark Jackson in addition to all of his reach-ins that were never called, but I guess that that's what happens when you play with MJ - you just don't foul ::).

Scott Pollard
Leon Powe
Eric Williams
Tony Allen
Delonte West

Anyone remember Brandon Hunter? He played 36 games for the Celtics in '03-04 and was out of the league a year later but somehow started 12 of those games for the Celtics. He was undersized but a beast of a rebounder and had, like, a 2 week stretch where he was just killing it. I loved that guy.

Yeah Pearlman's book. Say what you will about the Showtime Lakers, but they seem to be a great source for stories and such.

If I were making a lineup right now out of guys playing right now who are clearly not stars but who have a clearly defined role that they perform really well without complaint:

Hill
Redick
Ariza
Faried
R. Lopez

I think you slot any star in at any of the 5 positions and the rest of the lineup would work pretty darn well.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

I can't believe no one has Gerald (Henderson stole the ball!) Henderson on their list.  I mean, if he hadn't made that steal, we wouldn't have been hanging banner 15 in the rafters in 1984; in fact, according to Larry, we probably would've been swept by the Lakers.

My other favorites would be Larry Siegfried, Paul Silas, and Charlie Scott.  I always had a soft spot for Jerry Sichting too.

Absolutely.  I can't remember if you've posted in the past about this, but I was wondering, as long as we're discussing comedic tales from and of basketball players (and there are many ;D), have you read Unfinished Business by Jack McCallum, because McHale is just hilarious, lol ;D.

Btw, I think my favorite line from Pearlman's book, even though I only read parts of it, was the line about how Byron Scott couldn't use his left hand.  At all.  I believe Mike Dunleavy's line was, "I love Byron, but he couldn't take a p!ss with his left hand," ahahaha ;D.
