let him play point like turner or rj in college, this is what maine is for
it would help his court awareness and dribbling skills with right hand-just chucking up threes in mai
get him out of comfort zone in maine not at boston garden
he needs to be able to pentrate and dish, his right hand has only a couple of dribbles- i have this picture of him sort of frozen in corner or wing just waiting for a pass
-i remember feeling and looking like that  shooting a foul shot in old boston garden during the tech tourney quarterfinals ,the size of crowd the banners  and fans behing the backboards and there were dead spots

I think all of these ideas are wildly premature. He isn't Evan Turner, who after a number of years in the NBA proved he needed a change of pace to keep an NBA job.

The kid will be 20 in a few days. He had an. Underwhelming rookie year (though he had some good D-League play). That's nothing new for a kid his age. He had a few bad summer league games, got hurt, and then finished pretty well. That essentially means nothing.

He shouldn't be cut. He also shouldn't go to the D-League to play PG. He should get a shot to be a wing on this team as a second year player and see where things go with that.

I think playing him at PG would improve playmaking and passing skill
But I don't see the point
As he could still create and make plays at SF and SG spots
Plus rosier is probably going to receive playing time in the d league

Although playing the point might help his skills a little bit, I think it would hurt his confidence and that would have a net negative effect.  I'd rather have him continue to kick butt in the d league and hope that it will translate to the NBA.

playing point guard was just to speed up his skill level ,never any intention to become one-just to help his overall game, crossovers reverse pivot fade aways ,maybe a kobe type--jacking up threes only stymies his growth-i use rj in vegas as an exampleof where young has got to get

I like the idea rollie, it would be good for him. After all what is the d league for if not development?

This is just semantics.  He can't really play point guard because he could never cover the other point guard.  You can put him out there and let the offense go though him as a point forward if you want to call it that, kind of like what Evan Turner does.  If that is what you mean, then that may not be a bad thing but I am not sure it is necessary or would necessarily accelerate his development.

I ask people to think back on Avery Bradley's rookie season.  He was not emotionally ready for the NBA.  He was freaked-out, overwhelmed, just like Young was last season.  But Bradley matured albeit slower than most NBA players and found himself a role in the NBA.  It is hard to say what we have in Young, this is a big season for him.  He will need to show solid improvement on the varsity team.  If he can't play himself out of the D-League this season, his chances of ever doing it will diminish in my mind.  He is a very young man still so he still has time to show us something.

That's an idea,  I don't see him playing in Maine at all though, unless theirs an injury setback.

Exactly.  I can't believe the overreaction by some people about a 19 year old who wasn't ready for the NBA yet.

Any playing time is good playing time for James Young; whether it's in Maine or spot minutes in Boston.
