Why are we comparing Holmes and Sully? I see them as two very different players.

Firstly this. Then the point that it's summer league. It's nice that Holmes showed he can play (at that level) and it gives another option. He has a way to go to prove that he can be productive enough in the NBA to replace anyone (flawed as as some may seem/be) on the current roster. Certainly like to see more though.

Holmes is a quiet contributor, but the things I've picked up on so far are that he has a very smooth 3 point stroke, and moves around the court well for a big guy.

As far as having a place, I view him as Sully insurance. My guess is Holmes is invited to camp, and if Sully still looks like a walking ball of bread dough I could see him being jettisoned for a 2nd or outright cut. Alternatively, I'd say there is a reasonable possibility of a roster thinning trade between now and the end of camp, so that could also make room for him.

If the current 15 make it through camp looking pretty good together though, Holmes might be the odd man out.

I believe it's a current 16.

As noted in my Cleveland trade thread, I believe Holmes has a cleaner NBA niche than a few of our prized youngs. I'd like to see Ainge make room for him.

In a perfect world we can keep in him in our D-league team, and see how he is progressing.
But I read that other teams maybe interested in him, which make things more challenging.

As noted in my Cleveland trade thread, I believe Holmes has a cleaner NBA niche than a few of our prized youngs, notably Olynyk (whose a mediocre to subpar player in virtually every way).

Agreed. I'd actually take him over Olynyk despite the disparity in skills. Holmes would be a big upgrade defensively, and he can stretch the floor as would KO does.

I'd like him over PJIII as well, because again, Holmes can play better defense than him.

Jones has the chance to be a legit 3, with a little grooming, and luck regarding his maturity improving. I see Holmes as a potential swing from 3-4.

Olynyk has no position. Not quick enough to guard most 4s, and not strong enough for most 5s.

As for all the obsessing about where players are picked, it's complete nonsense. If teams could always pick the best player available, they'd be a lot better at it (read: Evan Turner), and we'd have players like The Greek Freak or G Dieng on this team.

All that matters is whether player will thrive in an NBA role, and even better, whether they could turn into more.

Thank you - TP.

I was surprised how well he shot, BEATLA.   I like him a lot in summer league but at the end of the day it was only summer league.

I know, but it has to count for something, right?  I'm not exactly suggesting that Holmes is a franchise player or anything, here.
