"We tried hard to trade up," said Ainge, his cell phone ringing repeatedly as he met with reporters around midnight. "We spent the last couple weeks trying to move and, really, today was the only time that we had any indication that we could move up. But we were trying.

"At the end of the day, it’s like Red [Auerbach] used to say, ‘Sometimes the best trades you make are the ones you don’t make.’ Maybe we were going too hard at it. There was a time when I thought, ‘Whoa, this is getting a little out of control.’ We’re putting a lot of eggs in one young player’s basket. So I’m not frustrated. In the long run, maybe it’ll be the best."

"The fans, they feed into what’s being written and said a lot, too," Ainge said. "But I did say that we would try to move up. The price was way too high. There’s so many rumors out there. There’s so many things that are being said and written that are not even close to being true, that are just made up stories -- no sources and fake sources -- and people get caught up in these rumors and their expectations go even higher

So it may have been even more than 16,28,33, and 45 But for the sake of this debate would you trade all four picks for Winslow or Turner.

Yes, I would have done it. I think the team, as currently constructed, is chock full of guys like the 4 we drafted today. What this team needs is another high-potential player like Marcus Smart. How the rookies' careers turn out will eventually reveal the true answer, but without hindsight, I'd opt for the cash-in strat because I think it has a higher chance of producing the type of player we need.

I would do it in a heartbeat. But there's no way that Charlotte would. Why would they want 4 rookies next year? I reckon the minimum they wanted was Bradley + a Brooklyn pick. Now would you have done that? That deal makes me pause.

I said it in the other thread too. If Charlotte was unwilling to take all 4 picks (and Wyc suggested they added another 1st rounder) for the chance to pick Frank Kaminsky, there is really not a lot more you can do.
"We do so many defensive drills in practice, I come home and I'm putting the press on my woman, denying her the ball.
Y'all are laughing, but it's sad. I go home and deny the wing."

Nobody would have taken it ...either

If you don't have top five picks there is really not much power or muscle .

That's why all the picks are always top five protected

Other than Smart we had nothing worth taking in on trade to get into the top ten . Much less the top five.

I think this is what people (including myself early in the evening) don't understand. Just because we didn't make any moves up in the draft doesn't mean DA wasn't trying.

Seriously look at picks #8-13 (targeted range to move) and think would any of those teams trade that guy for our picks? Kaminsky might have been a small reach for CHA but still. If you were those teams GM and DA was on the phone about your pick I think you'd turn him down too.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.
