How about being aggressive for Boogie Cousins?  Empty out the coffers, Danny.  8)

Absolutely this.

Why would we need an athletic wing when we vcan just resign Jae Crowder? I also heard from Chad Ford on the ESPN NBA Podcast that he was disappointed in Johnson athletically, as he was not the athlete everyone thought he will be coming out if high school.

If Danny will move the picks for the earlier pick, target top 6. Be in position for Winslow, Hezonja or even Mudiay. Otherwise, use it for Boogie.

So we give up half the team, picks and hope cousins gets us into the playoffs, and past the 2nd round, when he has not been even able to carry the kings into the playoffs  once yet?

YES!

Yes we do.

Cousins is a franchise player and absolutely someone you trade for at all costs and build a team around.

Like with KLove in Minny, Sacramento's lack of success has a lot less to do with Cousins and a lot more with the team's inept players and front office management.

How can a so called franchise calibre player, never make the playoffs in 5 years in the league? This is a joke right?

He played all 5 years in the western conference, that's how.

The Kings wouldn't have made the playoffs in the East in any of those seasons either.

Semantic arguments about what a "franchise" player is and is not are silly but however you define it, never cracking 30 wins in a season is a major strike against Cousins' case.  That said, he's an excellent player and would be very welcome here.

I think when people talk about both Cousins and Love failing to reach certain win totals, they really underestimate just how terrible the supporting cast and how volatile / negative the coaching situations have been around both players.

Neither guy is enough to guarantee that a team will compete for 50 wins in any given season, but they're both very productive.  Cousins is a step up from Love because he's been able to make an impact on both ends.

This is a really good draft. Much more depth at the top of the draft than you usually see. Less quality lower in the draft than normal. Definitely a year where Ainge should push the boat and try his best to get into that top 10. Happy to hear to this happening.

If Boston offers you a couple good, young players and a bunch of draft picks including one or two that seem like locks for the top 10 themselves, which helps your rebuild more?

Well, if I'm a competent GM who knows anything about how good teams in the NBA are constructed, I go with the package that offers one or two substantial assets with star upside, rather than the pu pu platter.

Not to mention that there isn't a single pick in the Celtics' trove that "looks like a lock for the top 10" and the "good, young players" you're talking about could also fairly be described as "cost controlled role players with limited upside."

The Celtics do have good young players with upside. I'm sorry, a high draft pick won't alone will not convince a GM to give up their star player. They're usually looking for a treasure trove along with a top pick or player.

I agree. I think the only real asset we have, at this point, is Smart. And I highly doubt we would be willing to part with him at this point, so I would be surprised if we get into the top 10. That may not be a popular stance to take here, but I think it's probably true. I do hope we can slide up a few spots though if someone drops that we're coveting.
I think IT is an asset, he may have one of the best contracts in the league;which is also an asset ESPECIALLY to a team trying to sign FA's. Avery is an asset, he also has a good contract and is a legit 2 way player.

Anyways, I know I am in the minority but I hope Ainge gets Kristaps and Myles Turner.  The East will be much more competitive next year and we probably won't make the playoffs, and we def won't win any championship . Ainge was not amused that we even made the playoffs this year and if he sees the winds turning I bet he would make the choice to sell high on guys like IT, AB, ET, and Sully/KO and do not resign Bass or Jonas and get rid of Gigi.

I just see that we have no star or all star on this team, I actually think we are the only team without one that made the playoffs; God knows all the lottery teams have at least one guy that is superstar potential/ franchise guy. We don't have a PP and we only have 1 young guy (smart) with high expectations and legit respect around the league. I mean we had a young squad of: Rondo,Tony Allen, Gerald Green(he was a high value  prospect that early on reminded of Tmac), Al Jefferson, Perk plus a #5 pick and PP.
Now look at us, who cares if we sign Monroe/Harris what will we win? A series or maybe 2, but we won't win a championship or even probably get there.

Sorry I'm just frustrated because I can't for the hell of me see why we would compete for the middle of the NBA ala the Hawks.

I want the celtics to aim for Porzingis, AKA the Tall Euro. We need a star. Obviously, the only way to get him would be to trade with the Knicks. If we can get to four, we have the option of choosing between Muidiay and the Tall Euro.

Celtics get: #4 overall pick

Knicks receive: Bradley, Sullinger, #16, and our first round pick next year, plus the dallas pick.

Nothing personal, but I would consider this a nightmare. I was hoping for something like all of our picks this year for the #9, not the best players on our team and three decent firsts for a pick I do not think will be any better than the #9. Typically, the #4 is definitely a better pick, but I would almost rather take who is left of that top group than be forced to make a decision.

No, a dream. Unfortunately Porzingis will be gone before the 4th pick, which means the Knicks may end up with Okafor or Ohio St kid at 4, in which case they won't be trading pick.
