Stunning?  Not at all.  Not surprising in the least.  He has always been a moron.  I bet we still have posters who think he is our answer as a "rim protector."

Just because he doesn't want to play basketball doesn't make him a moron.  This is a free country.

The most hopeful way to look at this is that he realizes that the intensity (stress; lifestyle...) of the NBA is making him unhappy and he has the self-understanding that he is better off moving in a different direction.

I think this is probably more common than we realize.  I think there could be many athletes who somewhere along the way become ovewhelmed by the stress of the spotlight.  Some probably engage in unhealthy behaviors, but perhaps some just make the choice for themselves to not pursue the life of a pro athlete.   It doesn't make a person an idiot, a moron, or mentally ill to make the decision that the life of a professional athlete is not for right for them.

Unfortunately, the pressure to meet everyone's idealized expectations (or one's own idealized expectations) is probably a factor that pushes some to stay with it when maybe they shouldn't.  It shouldn't necessarily be considered a failure.    Note that some intense competitiors like Larry, MJ, Kobe, etc, often have their own inner demons (perfectionism; ultra-competitivenss; gambling; narcisism....) that aren't exactly healthy or ideal.

It's probably true that Sanders has some inner challenges that he's struggled with, but this move is not necessarily one that indicates lack of intelligence, weakness, substance use or mental health issues.  It may be all of the above, but hopefully it's just a guy making the right choice for himself and hopefully he's doing so with a good plan for a good life.

For everyone acting as though a basketball player's only desire in life should be to play professional basketball:

Was it 'His Hero' or himself that left the german shepherd puppies outside in the freezing cold and when a concerned neighbor went to his door to ask if he'd let them inside, he told her to get off his porch or he'd call the police.

Perhaps when he runs out of money he'll have to spend some time in the cold....

so, you prefer puppies to the celtics having a rim protector??  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

You know what, on second thought, I am happy we never traded for this idiot.

I've heard and read some bad thing about Sanders.

Good riddance!!
This guy must of been an idiot too BITD???

During the early part of the 1977 season, Dave Cowens took a 2 month leave of absence from the Celtics and worked as a cab driver for one night. He explained that he just needed "to clear his head" and that he was "suffering from burnout."

Cowens attended an auto mechanics class during his second season -- until Boston boss Red Auerbach suggested he quit -- and often would arrive at Boston Garden with grease lodged beneath his fingernails?

Cowens announced his retirement on a team bus in Indiana (after crafting his own news release) and accepted a job as the athletic director of a 900-student, all-women's college in Weston, Mass.?

Cowens dabbled in politics, pined to be a county sheriff in his native Kentucky, served as chairman of a sports museum and president of an insurance group, and turned over the keys of the 1964 Mercury Comet he had just bought to a hitchhiker?

Cowens slept on a park bench after his team won an NBA championship, bragged about his mastery of shuffleboard and assisted stranded motorists during a snowstorm?

Cowens attempted to learn sign language, conked Larry Bird in the head with a snowball, lived in a converted bathhouse in his early playing days, run his own basketball camp every year since 1972 . .

What a moron, huh?

I would love it if L Sanders would be a cab driver. Once he could have a real job he could come running back the way Cowens did. I wonder if Cowens started his shift at 5:30 am or ended it around 3am. I wonder how much money he made doing that.

I don't buy that he just doesn't want to play basketball anymore.

Theirs definitely something involved that we don't know,  but that "something" may make pursuing  Sander not worth it and he may even be untradable.

More info will come out, the Agent has already call these rumors untrue.

Updating a previous report, Bucks coach Jason Kidd said on Monday that he expects Larry Sanders to rejoin the team within a few days, possibly as soon as Tuesday.

If you read on the Bucks forum on RealGM, some think these rumors are a fabrication/misreporting by one particularly disliked beat writer who has an axe to grind.
