I don't believe keeping or trading Rondo has any bearing on whether or not free agents want to come to Boston.

Money talks....you know the rest.

The money is equal when it comes to top FAs. Max contracts. Everybody has the same offer.

It's the basketball situation that you control and can differ yourself from rival bids. That is where Ainge has to establish Boston as major attraction. Recent Championship runs help. Rondo helps.

For the rest of the FAs, money talks. You can separate yourself from the pack with larger offers. For guys in that $10-14 million range. Or role players below that price. But the top guys, the max money guys, it's the same (financially) offer everywhere. It's the basketball situation that separates bids.

Depending on the player you ask it could be true (as well as with other players). I'm sure there were a lot of players that didn't want to come to the team because of Kg especially with his reputation for being one of the most hated. There are also players (Lebron and Kobe) and coaches (in particular Bird and Pop) that are on record saying some very good things about Rondo. It just depends on who you ask and how you ask the question.

This is what I'm thinking too.  Rondo is a love him or hate him kind of guy.  For instance we have Kobe on record saying:

"From what I understand he's an [butthole] like me, so he'll manage."

"You don't want Rondo? Send him my way," Kobe declared. "I love everything about him. Everything. I love his attitude, I love his chippiness, his edge, his intellect, his know-it-allness. All of it. That's what makes championship players.

"What guard have you seen at his size that will get you 18 assists, 17 boards and 20 points all in one game? That's unheard of. I love that kid. I always make a point of talking to him during All-Star [Weekend]. He's one of my favorites."

And while we have other players are networking and building friendships on Team USA, Rondo withdraws from the team and says he'll never play for them again.  I wouldn't be surprised if that rubbed a few other stars the wrong way.

I can see a lot of the goofballs, the not so serious guys around the league not wanting to play with Rondo.  A goofball like Dwight Howard, who couldn't play with Nash and didn't like playing with Kobe, no way he could play with Rondo. 

It's like the Kobe/Shaq split.  It seemed like most people would prefer to play with Shaq, he's a blast to be around and doesn't take anything too seriously, Kobe on the other hand...

That's how I see Rondo.  No matter how many easy buckets he can get you, some people just don't want to put up with his ornery personality.  Not that everybody wouldn't want to play with him, but I can see some who definitely wouldn't.

You can't please every one...and I'm sure at the end of the day, there are a lot of people who don't like Rondo and don't want to play with him.

So what?  Is this a league of personal preference now?  I mean, we've had draftees declare they won't play for the the team that was likely to draft them in the past...but are we really at a point where you get your panties in a bunch over someone takes precedent over whether or not, together, you might be part of a winning combination?

Sports are full of "personalities"...look back at some of the crazier football players in the past.  But that doesn't stop their talent from meshing with the talent of others to create something great.  I tell you now...if Rondo wasn't here when Ray Allen and KG arrived, Banner 17 would not exist...IMO.

I prefer to criticism even if it's sometimes a little exaggerated, compared to a local media that is too partial to the team and players.

Not hard to believe. Opinions on Rondo differ widely. Makes sense players would follow suit. For some guys, Rondo is a major attraction. For others, not an attraction.

Then it's darn lucky that the guys who don't like/have fought with Rondo, such as Hump, become friends with him once they get here.

Trashing our only star as he is shoved out the door is gonna make the New England Winters seem warmer...cuz the always came before Rondo came around. Meanwhile...the most similar Celtic character wise I have seen since Bird is Rondo.

If Rondo had McHale Bird and Parrish he'd be sporting a couple more rings like Bird .....and McHale would have un fond memories of Rondo...like he does of Bird.

Sure -- the knuckledragging element of discourse is what does it for me. Sports don't have to be for stupid people, but you wouldn't know it by virtue of Boston talk radio.
