This could also be another scenario:
Wade and Bron opt out. Resign with Miami and take a bit less so Melo joins them.
Bosh opts out and agrees to be signed and traded to Houston for Asik and Lin.
Possible?
Whether the numbers could be made to work or not, I don't know - but Houston's primary motivation in dumping Asik and Lin is to clear out space to take a run at Melo themselves. Not sure whether they'd be looking to dump them just to acquire Bosh.
And, I don't see a Bosh/Dirk combination working for the Mavs.
I could see a deal like that between Houston and Miami. Houston would prefer Melo but definitely wants another top player rather than Asik and Lin. Bosh would fit that need. Asik and Lin would definitely fit Miami's needs at PG and C. A legit C on Miami would allow them to play Melo at PF with Bron staying at SF. not quite sure how Lin and Asik's contracts would impact the ability to sign Melo though -- Bron and Wade would have to take steep pay cuts I would believe.
Also, putting Bosh next to Howard would make for a very tough front court for Houston. Add Harden's shooting and that's a top team in the West if they keep Parsons and have Jones and Beverly improve next year.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly.
This would actually work out REALLY well for both Miami and Houston. As mentioned, the only issue I could see is how the money would work or if it would even work at all.
They wouldn't be dumping them "just to get Bosh"... They would be trading them to acquire Bosh which would be an incredible move for them. I think a Howard/Bosh/Harden trio is a much better system fit then Melo/Howard/Harden would be.
Also give Miami a legit starting 5 of Lin/Wade/Melo/James/Asik
As I said earlier in this thread, Miami will it be able to take on Asik and Lin's salary and add Melo unless the new big 3 is willing to take between $13-14 million, which is less than what Asik and Lin will be paid this year. That's not happening. Taking $17-18 million is one thing, but this will not happen.
I could totally see Miami willing to take a future pick for Bosh to help create a S&T if they're going to bring in Melo, but they simply cannot take back Asik and Lin and get Melo. The salaries do not work.
