Still it is nice he scouted us.   Shows he did not say no to us up front but it is still a longshot.

Just going to cut and paste my thoughts from the other thread.  I'm still not giving my hopes up:

From what I understand, Love can't sign an extension right now.  He's under contract for 2014-15 and has a player option for 2015-16.  It's not until next season that he could sign an extension, right?

My info is based on comments on this forum, but from what I understand, a team that trades for Love could make the trade contingent on Love opting in for that 2nd season.   Since he can't sign an extension, getting him to agree to opt-in for  year 2 is the best any potential trade partner can hope for.

It could still end up being a risky 2 year rental, but at the very least you'd have a bit of a buffer... worst-case scenario if things aren't working out, you could just explore trading him next summer (since he'd be under contract for another season).

So my guess is this Boston trip was related to that opt-in.  Love may have told his agent that there were a couple teams he'd be willing to opt-in for (such as the Lakers).   But perhaps he was on the fence about Boston.  He doesn't really know the city and hadn't visited it before.  They set up the trip a couple weeks ago.  Love has been in communication with Rondo and they made sure they were both in Boston at the same time.  This was likely just an exploratory trip set up by Love's agent.  It gives him a chance to feel out the city, contemplate the Celtics and see if he'd be willing to opt in for a 2nd year upon being traded there.

That doesn't mean the Wolves will trade him.  That doesn't mean the Wolves will trade him to Boston.  That doesn't mean Boston even has the best offer.  But assuming Love and his agent give the green light on opting in for that 2nd year, Ainge could feel comfortable offering up assets without worrying about it merely being a 1 year rental.  The more teams that Love is willing to do that 2015-16 opt-in for, the more teams the Wolves can negotiate with over the next months.  If Love decides that he doesn't like BOston and isn't willing to commit to 2 years there, Ainge doesn't really need to waste his time... because he knows he'd be more than likely just getting a 1 year rental.

This is still probably a long way from being over, though.  Other teams will have competitive offers... and maybe Love decided a while ago that he was comfortable opting in for some of those teams.

I think it's more likely the T-wolves told Love "hey there's an offer on the table from Boston that we're seriously considering. why don't you go check out the city?"

We do well with power forwards named Kevin that previously played in Minnesota.

Even Dino Radja's middle name is probably Kevyn and he played in Messaggero.

This is all incredibly interesting . .. .BUT, seems way too good to be true. The cost to acquire Love is going to be high if a deal is done . .. and we don't want to get into a NYKnicks situation post Melo where the cupboard is bare. All these draft picks and assets can't vanish in a potential deal. Love is a sweet potential addition, but there will be significant additional building needed afterwards in order for his acquisition to make sense. He's only 1 guy.

We have considerably more picks than the knicks had when they traded for Melo. We will still have about 6 1st rd picks left over through 2018.

^LOL. I am just as stoked as you are what more can we ask for, he was personally handed a 90 minute DVD on the Celtics history. He wants to talk to Bill Walton about what it's like playing for the Celtics, he mingled with Rondo and Patriots players. The draft can't come soon enough.

You really can't ask for a better embassador than Walton either.
That's what I was thinking.  I can imagine what Walton will sound like.  He makes the things that he likes sound like the greatest things in the world.

Have to agree. When the Knicks traded for Melo the were a team who went all in before compiling enough assests to give Melo a supporting cast. Even with the most grossly expensive Melo packages that I've seen proposed we would still have plenty of future and current assets to pull another move.

The Knicks also had no concern for skill overlap considering they already had Amare locked up for a Kings ransom and about 60% of what Melo likes to do and many of the areas in which he likes to operate are already being covered by Stoudemire.

Maybe... but that'd be completely unnecessary unless the deal needs to be contingent on Love opting in for his second year.  OTherwise, Wolves can just trade him wherever they want and teams can feel content to offer up weak packages if they don't mind having a 1 year rental.  Hence, my point still stands... the trip was probably set up to determine if Love is willing to commit to two years in Boston.

The word in NBA circles is that Love's agent is pushing hard for a trade for his client and has been trying to urge interested teams into making aggressive offers to the Timberwolves, trying to get something down around the NBA Draft so Love can focus his attentions on his new team.

The deal would most likely be contingent on Love opting in from a player + agent perspective because he stands to make the most money that way (opting in, then resigning with the team that he's on when his contract expires).

He's certainly not going to sign an extension rather than hit free agency. I don't know why people keep thinking like that.

Dan Feldman had a pretty good article on this a couple weeks ago, it even with a graph:

You know, I even became less interested in the NBA 2K series after Walton stopped doing the commentating. I always appreciated the things he had to say and how he said them - "That was HORRIBLE!"

On a lighter note, this from a (presumed)Wolves fan on a Wolves message board, regarding KLove wanting to go to Boston:

"Good for him. Going from Minnesota to Boston would be like that kid who flew in the wheel well on that flight from California to Hawaii suddenly being given his own private jet."

Wolves fever. Catch it today!
