PP for the MLE makes sense, as a bench guy and leader.  Otherwise, pass.

I could see Deng agree to a sign and trade for the TPE. Especially if we have Love and Asik deal done. We'd become a desirable destination for a lot of FA vets.  Similar to what happened once KG and Allen were added in '07.

How are we getting Asik? He makes like 13m this season...I know only 8 counts against the cap but don't you still have to match pretty close to the 13m? Bass has to be used for Love, who's left to absorb Asik... we had Clee and Bass last season to put on Asik ALONE.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

For the purpose of salary cap math, Asik's salary is approximately $8.4m.  That is the figure used in determining the legality of trades.  So his salary is $15m, but his salary is $8m.  Sometimes A is not A.

What is the obsession with bringing back a geriatric Paul Pierce to play on the C's now??? I don't get it. Did anyone watch him play last year? He isn't very good and I don't see how you can justify playing him ahead of the young guys or any potential draft picks. I love Paul Pierce. But, that trade last summer was a a signal to move on. We should be thankful he accepted because those draft picks look like they might be gold in a few years. The only contract we should give Pierce now is a one day contract so he can sign and retire as a Celtic. That's it.

And what is the obsession with only wanting "young" players on the team? I'd love to have Paul back as a 6th man.

I think a team is unable to reacquire a player it has traded for one calendar year.

Meaning that the TE would expire just before Pierce could return via trade.

It's one year or the July 1 after the player's contract expires, whichever comes first.  I'm not sure if the Pierce exception ends before the July moratorium, but if it does, we could use the trade exception to reacquire him.

Gotcha. I'm only going to go by what you say, I'm too lazy to check. I just don't get how we were supposedly sending Bass and Clee if that's the case... he is making more this season than last, doesn't add up.

Now, even with it at 8, how do we get Asik after the Love deal?

Holy loophole, Batman.

The moratorium ends on July 10. The TE from the Nets trade ends on July 12, I believe. So Pierce could conceivably be signed and traded from Brooklyn back to Boston via the TE. Wow.

It would be as close as the modern CBA would allow to an Auerbachian move.

It would become part of Celtics lore, like trading the Ice Capades for Bill Russell or drafting Bird a year early.

footey gets it.

If we make deals for Love and Asik based mostly around picks rather than players as sweeteners, shipping out mostly expirings and the players they would both replace, perhaps there is a wild fireworks scenario where DA can put a contender together as early as this summer.

If we load up with Deng, Pierce, Green (if he stays), and Wallace (if he stays), that's a lot of folks to switch on perimeter screens to cover Lebron, Melo, etc.

As I wrote in another thread, if Rondo/Bradley is a contending backcourt as it has proven to be, and Love/Asik looks like a powerful front line, other players start to become available that wouldn't be otherwise, and Pierce would surely like to come back for another playoff run in a 6th man/role player role, and would love an other run at Lebron, Ray Allen, and Miami.
