What if we made a draft day trade with the pistons?
DET receives:
Jeff Green
2014 pick 5

BOS recieves:
Greg Monroe
2014 pick 8
2014 pick 38

With this we can still get Aaron Gordon at 8
Another wing at 17 like Young or Hood or stauskas then with the 38th pick PJ Hairston if he's still there
What do y'all think?

Greg Monroe can't be traded on Draft Night, because he is set to become a restricted free agent this coming summer.

Like the idea, but to echo Lucky's comment - couldn't work. We could try a sign and trade with Detroit, however.

If you remove this caveat (agreeing to a deal in advance), then I really like it. We still get one of the top 8, while upgrading our center position in a major way. I understand that Monroe isn't a "rim protector", but he is a very good, tough, young, and skilled player. I like him much more than somebody like Larry Sanders - there is a lot better chance of success.

Obviously if we land in the top 3 I don't do this deal unless they offer up Drummond instead.

Why are you so sure we can take Gordon at 8? You're assuming Randle, Vonleh, and Smart all go ahead of him?

Yes I think the pistons would not take Gordon at 5 because it would crowd their front court just like this year.
I think the Lakers will take a PF like vonleh or randle to replace Gasol or smart/exum to pair with Kobe
And the kings need a PF to pair with DMC and Gordon isn't that guy for them I think they will take Randle or Vonleh which ever one is left

If everything stays as is and the Pistons pick is at #8. How about the following?

Rondo
Wallace

for

Jennings
#8 Pick
Jerebko (expiring deal)
Charlie V. (signed to a similar S&T deal like Bogans, where the years after the 1st are non-guaranteed)

We get rid of Wallace's deal and replace them with expiring deals. Get a good lottery pick (Ford currently has Smart going #8). I'm not the biggest Jennings fan, but his contract is reasonable (8M) and only runs for 2 more seasons. Plus, I feel confident that Stevens could improve his game/trade value considering what he did for Crawford.

Well, Jerebko is expiring only if he declines the 2014-15 player option on his contract, and CV can't be signed to a new deal until July. So, that player taken at #8 couldn't be moved until weeks after Draft Night.

So, you're basically using Rondo to unload Wallace's contract and get Smart and Jennings?

Detroit might look to get a general manager before they start making deals.

I had always hoped that Joe Dumars would have it in his heart to pay back Danny with a great trade in thanks for Danny helping him land Sheed back in 2002 or 2003 (?).  Too bad.  Maybe McHale expects the same from us with the Garnett trade!!

If neither Boston nor Detroit move from their current draft positions, I could see a swap of picks going down. I think Detroit would very much like to move up to get Smart before the Lakers have a chance to get him.

I expect Detroit's new GM to find a way to resign Monroe. Add a PG like Smart to him and Drummond, and the future looks much better for the Pistons going forward.

What I'm not sure about is what value Ainge could command for sliding down to #8 (presumably to take whoever of Gordon/Vonleh/Saric/Randle is still on the board). A 2nd round pick is not enough.

Yes. Mannix was quoted as saying that talking to GM's across the league the cost of moving Wallace would be a future 1st rd pick, so it's not as though the Wallace dumping is anything to scoff at. I think that's excellent value and allows us to have major cap room in the summer of 16. That would mean adding a major piece(s) to go along with Olynyk, Sullinger, 3 lottery picks (safe to say we're in the lottery next year), and the #17 pick this year.

Wasn't scoffing, was asking.

Jennings' contract is as long as Wallace's, although a few million cheaper each year.

Rondo's expiring would be traded for Jerebko's expiring (he can only be traded if he opts in for next year), plus CV's new filler deal. Probably a few more million saved for that year.

You'd make some modest financial gains, and get the #8 pick. It still leaves me lukewarm, though.

Ah yes, the days when Joe Dumars seemed to know what he was doing.
