Marcus Smart did the same thing last year. It happens.

I don't think both of them stay in school, though. And that'd be the only reason for me to buy a Lakers no. 24.

Yeah, but I think we're kind of seeing why that doesn't always work out. Another year in college means another year of scrutiny + more time for scouts to pick at flaws. Take our on Sullinger for a moment - projected to be a high lottery pick but staying in school. A combo of back issues and questions about his athleticism dropped him to #21 the following year. That's a lot of money he gave up by staying an additional year.

Frankly, unless you're really committed to another year of exploring the, uh,  physically intimate  extracurricular activities that are afforded an NBA-bound player at a massive, D-1 school, it makes little sense to stay any longer than you have to.

As far as making money's concerned, anyway. Everyone should make an effort to get as educated as they please.

My plan is to draft Embiid, then have him sit out all of next year with a fake injury than get  a top 5 pick the following year too. Hey it was about what the clippers did a few years back so why not

Parker is not going back.  His game is already ready for the NBA, and he will be a top 3 pick. Coach K would be doing a huge disservice to him to suggest that he needed another year of seasoning.  His stock could only drop.

Embiid is a different story.  Don't have a good read on him.  Good precedent for centers to develop in college longer.

Read a recent SI piece on the Parker-Coach K dynamic.

If Parker stays, it'll be out of a sense of love for/duty to his coach, and unfinished goals at Duke. Not because his coach tells him to stay.

And because Coach K has a lot to gain, fiscally, by influencing Parker not to be a one-and-done.

Calipari may be a skeez ball, but at least he's on the level with his players about their mutual goals.

How would you feel if Duke loses in the NCAA title game and Parker wants to go back for the sole purpose of becoming a NCAA champion or if Duke wins the tournament and Parker wants a chance to defend the title?

Would you think he is a moron for passing up the money or would you respect him for placing championships above money?

How would you feel is someone boiled down your emotions about a professional decision into a "sole reason?"

Not really.  This is Duke.  He is going to just restock like the other big schools.  He is already the biggest name at Duke and one of the biggest names of all college sports.  One sophomore isn't going to earn him a lot more money.
