Yeah this makes about as much sense as higher taxes  .....

I think it makes perfect sense.  Bass has potential future trade value.  It doesn't make sense to trade Bass for significantly less than that future value just for the sake of getting rid of him.  Passing up short-term self-gratification and thinking about the future is the prudent course of action.

So, basically, I agree with you.

I know a lot of people on here want to move Bass' contract, but I think it makes more sense to keep him. Other than Bogans and Anthony, we have no ther expiring contracts on the team next year if we wanted to try and trade for an all-star to add to rondo ,and I believe Bogans is only non guaranteed for a certain time period.

If we keep Bass we can add his salary to anthonys and have 9 mil in expiring contracts that could really help make a deal happen.

Even if we can't trade him in a package for an all-star, he will still have value to a contending team next year as an expiring contract, and someone who can guards lebron for stretches .

I wouldn't be so quick to move him

It makes more sense to try and package Green and Bradley for Asik and a 1st, or something similar in value IMO.

Get some assets for bradley before he walks in FA
Valid points but you're missing the whole aspect of Sullinger, Olynk needing extra court time. Moving Bass allows Sully to play over 30 minutes a game, something he desperately needs.

He does? How so? He's coming off back surgery and has been battling injuries all season.  If anything, I'd like to see the Celtics sit Sullinger down for a few games until he fully heals his hand.  Let alone increase his flippin' minutes.

Absolutely ridiculous for a rebuilding team not competing for a championship to risk the health of one of their young players.  In January and February regular season games no less.  He's also hurting his trade value with these terrible shooting nights recently that can possibly be attributed to playing with strained tendons in his hand and a dislocated finger.
You never completely heal an injury before you play, even minor injuries that Sully is dealing with right now. You let it heal enough so you can play without much pain and without jeopardizing your long term health. I have my faith in the training and medical staff in that regard.

As to those terrible shooting nights, if not now, when? The rebuilding team is supposed to play its young players and let them develop. This is the time for him to take shots, because I sure won't want him to experiment when we are back to contender status.

This was my first thought. I'm going to start counting how many times I read, "Bass is a bum", in game threads.  :)

Couldn't we just sign a guy on a year MLE deal if we were that worried about using his salary slot in a trade next year?
