  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.

Good joke. TP.

Either way, I believe in order for us to obtain Melo, that we need to get Asik. Melo will only find more solace and belief in us if he sees we have a legitimate defensive Center to anchor the defense. There is no urgency in this, but the trade deadline ends soon. If DA is going to make some moves, then he needs to make some moves soon. Or the possibility of us being able to sign Melo in FA is impossible.

I seriously think Wallace, TPE, Bogans, Crawford, Green, Humphries and a few first round unprotected picks with some 2nd rounders is a pretty decent deal. We could throw in Faverani if it'll help for Melo/Stoudemaire.

You're right, but I'm not way off with that 'crazy' roster. I think in 2010 we were $74 million. Obviously the luxury tax is killer but that squad would win the championship and have a shot at 3 peating depending on health. Wyc would pay the bill I think.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Okay, I've decided that Wyc's crew really won't care about a little luxury tax as long as we are a top 4 team and contending.

So..

Celtics send
2014 lottery pick +
Wallace +
Bogans +
Bass

Knicks send
Carmelo Anthony
(via sign and trade $23 million x 4 years)

Rockets send
Omer Asik

Celtics send
Jeff Green

Celtics
* Sign offer sheet to Chris Bosh $22 Million x 4 years
*Sign offer sheet $11 million to Lance Stephenson x 4 years
*Sign Kevin Garnett Veterans minimum x 2 years
*Sign Paul Pierce veterans minimum x 2 years

Starting 5

PG Rondo $14 million x 4
SG Stephenson $12 million x4
SF Carmelo $23 million x4
PF Bosh $22 million x 4
C Omer Asik $8 million x1

=$79 million
+ bench ($4-5 million)

Bench
Jared Sullinger
Paul Pierce
Kevin Garnett

Approx $84 million with a tiny tax bill  8)
Actually by sending Green to New York and forgetting about Asik and putting Sully as PF and Bosh at Center we'd cut this by 8 million to $76 million.

Celtics:
Win Banner 18.

You forgot that Asik's salary balloons to 15m next year.  So that is actually a 91 million dollar team.  It's nice to dream, but no way in hell that can happen within the salary cap rules.  Even if it could I don't see the C's willing to pay that much luxury tax.  Danny was virtually contorting himself just to get under the 73m tax limit this year!

"NEW YORK --  The National Basketball Association today announced that the Salary Cap for the 2013-14 season will be $58.679 million. The tax level for the 2013-14 season has been set at $71.748 million."

"•Portion of team salary $0-$4.99 million over tax level: $1.50 for $1
•Portion of team salary $5-$9.99 million over tax level: $1.75 for $1
•Portion of team salary $10-$14.99 million over tax level: $2.50 for $1
•Portion of team salary $15-$19.99 million over tax level: $3.25 for $1
•Rates increase by $0.50 for each additional $5 million of team salary above the tax level."

Asik will have to be paid $14.89 million next season. But does this matter when it comes to salary cap and tax purposes?

To my knowledge, the answer is no.

The Celtics wouldn't soar into the luxury tax next season because of the actual payment. As salary cap expert Larry Coon says, "Don't think of it as paying [Asik] $7 million extra. Think of him as a $15 million center with a cap hit of an $8 million player."

With the luxury tax, the salary cap hit is all that matters. So, even though Asik will be paid almost $15 million next season, he only counts as $8 million towards the cap, and therefore the luxury tax. That means the Celtics wouldn't have to worry about the luxury tax unless they made another deal that put them over the limit.

How many times are you going to post this nonsense?  You have been told repeatedly that there are so many problems with the salary structure with this, that none of it works, etc. and yet you keep posting this crap.  Quit posting it.  It doesn't work.  Almost none of it is possible.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Wow, had your chill pill today?
Actually, no one has told me why it's not possible. Roy seems to think it's not possible under the new CBA but won't explain why.
Again, all I've done is suggest a trade idea and then had 4 or 5 people say 'wow that's crazy it's not possible'... but no one's explained why or they've given an incorrect answer and then vanished.
I believe that with the threshold set at $77 million this scenario is possible with a large tax bill.

And by the way, when do I 'keep posting this crap'? It's in two topics. One of which was a trade suggestion and one as a reply to the question of 'cashing in the pick' or not.

I'm one of the biggest contributors to the quality content of this forum and I put up with a tonne of crap from repetitive posters harping the same argument.

It doesn't work because there is a salary cap.  Teams can sign their own players over the cap, but not free agents from other teams.

I was hoping we can maybe try to pull a trade for Sanders or Noah. If we can pull a trade for Melo, then I would advise us trying to either get Sanders or Asik, whichever can help us in the long run.

The NBA has a salary cap.  We would not have the cap room for either Bosh or Stephenson.

*edit* we could possible squeeze in Stephenson, depending on what he would sign for.
