Somewhat interesting comments from Chad Ford on his (and NBA execs) estimation of DA's thought process for rebuilding:

Nick (Boston)

Hi Chad, with the Celtics trading Crawford and getting more draft picks could you see them trading those picks and getting a veteran to pair with Rondo?

I think Danny Ainge tends to be a little agnostic on issues like this. If all of those draft picks and assets allow him to trade for a player or two that can make the Celtics a contender again ... he'll go that route. If trading a few veterans like Rondo, Jeff Green or Gerald Wallace can get him back valuable assets that help him rebuild later, he'll do that. Most people around the league think the Celtics are gunning for a Top 3 pick. I'm still unsure. Ainge isn't as in love with this draft as others. He may try to sell high if he can. Those picks are still worth a lot right now.

Which is the opposite of what he said in last week's chat.

Maybe Ford's heard different things from Ainge in the interim.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Probably something like this:

"Chad, if you want inside information from me ever again, you'd better start convincing everyone I hate this draft."

I don't see the contradiction from what he said last week, because Ford is a 'glass half empty' guy on Rondo. In other words,

1) he thinks Ainge is in collection mode, not trying to gain a couple more wins now, and;
2) he thinks Ainge is more likely to use Rondo as an asset than as a building block.

If he's correct:

~~ the most likely players to be traded this year are Green, Bass and Bayless, and they Cs are more likely to swap them for "assets" (i.e. cap space, picks, rookie contracts) than they are to trade them for veterans of equal ability or experience.

~~ Ainge will poke around on Rondo to see if he can get good value for him, though it's less likely that deal will shape up considering it would take more assets to get him.

I wouldn't argue with that. Perfectly logical based on Ainge's history.

Looking at it again, it's also possible that "others" refers to other NBA GM's, rather than other draft classes. Ambiguous word choice makes either likely.
