Two weeks ago he was player of the week but since then he has been a turnover machine most of them ugly like not getting the ball across half court in the eight seconds allotted, laxadazical passes being picked off, dribbling the clock out taking too much time to set up a play
He's had 11 turnovers over the last 5 games while averaging 35 minutes per game. Over the same span, he's had 29 assists.

Quote
in the Pistons game he was 5/22.
No, he wasn't. He was 4 for 15 -- you should learn how to read an NBA box score ;)

Hey now, let's not bring numbers into what is clearly an "eye test" thread.
As long as we are going to bring numbers into the conversation let's not forget that the sample size of Crawford playing smart, good basketball is so small as to be considered a complete aberration. What's a lot more likely is that he will return to his career TS% of 49%, his career eFG% of 45% and his career assist% of 20% while maintaining a ridiculously high usage ratio for a player with stats like that.

I only bring the point up to say that we're talking about "reigning in" Crawford, who is "throwing the ball away" on "laxadasical passes" after one or two games where he actually played about the same as he has been all year.

I don't doubt that a large part of his resurgence is due to the fact that he's playing in a contract year, and he's had a legitimate chance to hold on to a starting role (something he hadn't had in Washington or with us last year), but this sort of knee-jerk naysaying seems silly to me.
Yeah, I didn't get the lackadaisical passing thing either. When it comes to true turnovers Crawford has never been bad with the ball. Actually given his usage rate he takes care of the ball extremely well. I just assumed the OP meant the less than intelligent decisions Crawford makes regarding when to shoot versus when to pass that when he misses feels like its a turnover.

I actually think I once read that Doc Rivers had an assistant coach keep stats on mental errors that don't make the stat sheet(as well as a bunch of other stats that don't make the stat sheet) and posted them on his board for the players to see so they would be aware of the mental errors they make and needed to fix in order to get or keep their playing time.

Well, he pretty much gives himself no chance to turn it over, given that he'll rather jack it from anywhere than force a pass ;D

'graph one--yeah, you're probably right.

'graph two--that's really smart. I hadn't heard that one before.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Yeah if I remember right other stats he collected were deflected passes(not steals), altered shots(not blocks), out of bounds hustle plays that preserved a possession, 50/50 hustle plays, and cross court passes(part of the mental errors).

I'm sure every coach has their own non-stat stats they collect to make their points to their players.
