Lance Stephenson is a interesting player for sure. I know a lot of Pacer fans really value him for his play making, some even call him their primary play maker. I think he'd fit well with this team and could take over those duties when Rondo's off the court.

Would I pay him 10 million per year though? No way.
You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

I don't think Indiana will break the bank to keep him, but I also think he'll get more than the mid-level, which barring some salary dumping, is about the most we'll have to offer.  I'd be fine with him at that salary, but I won't lose any sleep if he is never a Celtic .

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I think him and Rondo together would be a disaster.

Not enough shooting and Stephenson doesn't bring enough speed and athleticism to make up for it.

I'd pass.

Our first "big salary" signing has to be a bona fide superstar. Once you have the big piece in place players like Stephenson are more likely to come and will come for less money. When you don't you end up overpaying.

Like the Rockets signing Asik and Lin before trading for Harden and signing Howard?

There are exceptions. And the Rockets did end up overpaying those two.

Asik is worth more than the $25.1m/3yr contract he is on, it was just configured to make it tough for Chicago to match the offer sheet.  If Asik was a free agent this or last summer, he'd get a bigger contract than that.

I like Stephenson, but he's not the sort of player you invest a lot of money into unless he's one of the last complementary pieces you need to make a contender.

That's where I'm at.  He's a very nice player, but he's ultimately a good glue guy rather than a cornerstone player.  He's perfect for the role he's playing right now, but as one of the top options on a team... not so much.

What about Bledsoe? I'm genuinely curious as to what people think (i.e. not trying to use Bledsoe as a counterpoint) as I only have brief impressions of the likes of Stephenson and Bledsoe.

They seem kind of like Harden types, benefiting from more volume and underused currently due to their role (Bledsoe was last year anyway).

But Harden definitely seems like a step up.

No!

Let Lance be somebody else's problem.  Everybody wonders what Nate Robinson would be like
If he was taller?  Well Lance is it.  He has little discipline on the court.

Nate acquitted himself quite nicely with the Bulls last season...
