Why would New Orleans make this trade?

To get out of Gordon's contract, since it seems rather clear to me they intend on moving on with Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans.  I think a better question is why Boston would want to do that, at least now; Gordon has to prove he's capable of being a franchise talent, because otherwise, Boston's just saddling itself with even more money tied up in a player who's not worth it.
Gordon is significantly better than Evans.  Evans was merely insurance for Gordon if he gets hurt again.  I fully expect a 3 man rotation of Holiday, Gordon, and Evans from them.  Phoenix was much more likely to make that trade, New Orleans not so much.
I thought they were going to use Tyreke as a small forward.

Then use Austin Rivers as a backup PG. Aminu as a larger defender/rebounder at SF either as a low minute starter or as bench player. A five man perimeter rotation of those players.

Going smaller and adding more dribble drive threats on the perimeter (Rivers, Tyreke at SF) rather than going bigger in a three man backcourt with Tyreke and two SFs with legitimate size.

Gordon may be significantly better, but he's played a grand total of 107 out of 230 regular season games since 2010.  For what he's making ($14+ million), he's not worth it (to either NO or Boston) until he shows he can stay on the court consistently.

NO is paying Evans $11 million: they did not pay him that much to be "merely insurance" as a long-term sixth man, especially not when Jrue Holiday is making $9.21 million ($11 million in his last year) and Gordon $14.28 million.  That's almost $45 million wrapped up in three natural guards, neither of whom are the team's best player - Anthony Davis - who will eventually be due for an extension.  One of those guys is the odd-man out, and signs point to it being Gordon.
Sure they did.  Gordon is better than Evans.  Everyone knows this.  Everyone also knows that Gordon hasn't exactly been the picture of health (and also can't exactly play 35 minutes a night for awhile).  After acquiring Holiday, they didn't need Vasquez, but they did need a combo guard to back-up both Holiday and Gordon.  That is why they made the trade.  That is why Gordon and Holiday are starting and Evans is the primary back-up.  That was always the plan for New Orleans.

I'm sure New Orleans would trade Gordon, they just aren't going to give him away for Boston's garbage, which is exactly what the trade proposal in this thread is.  Now if it was an unprotected pick from Boston in 2014, they would make that trade, but there is no way Boston does that as that pick is far too valuable.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

NO would be stupid to make that deal.

I would trade Avery Bradley for Vin Baker right now.

Do we need to trade a contract that will clear $10 million off next year's salary(something I think important for the future), a pick and one of the league's premier perimeter defenders for yet another undersized SG? Isn't Lee, Brooks, Crawford and Bogans enough SGs for one team.

If we are going to trade Humphries, Bradley and a pick can we at least get something we need, like a real time back up or starting center or a high quality PG? This team is littered with PFs and SGs. I don't see the need to bring in another unless we are dumping at least a couple.
