I got a new respect for Otto Porter. I don't know of many kids his age that would do this, much less NBA players.

I'm usually more of a pessimist, especially regarding these type of things, but with your line "I don't know of many kids his age that would do this, much less NBA players.", I actually take a glass is half full view.
I like to think most NBA players do this kind of thing, at least on some level. We only know about this specific Otto Porter thing because somebody wrote in to a major paper about it.
Hey, just a couple of months ago JaVale McGee did something similar. For every situation like this we hear about, I like to think there are probably 100 more that we never hear about.
A lot of these guys might act like jerks or idiots at other times, but I think a lot of them actually step up to the plate when it comes to at least doing something for kids/homeless/less fortunate. If we could get data on millionaires, broken out by athletes vs more typical white collar millionaires, I think the athletes giving, based on frequency and total given (as a % of earnings) would blow non-entertainers giving out the water.
Good for Otto Porter, Jr. though.
