Looking at the Nets roster made we think:  which team had the best collection of talent ever, when you look at how those players performed that year or earlier in their career? In other words, current stars and past stars count, whereas guys who went on to be future stars don't.

Nominations?  In the last several years, I'll say it's the 2011 Celtics.  Shaq-KG-Pierce-Ray-Rondo-JO is hard to beat.

2010-2011 celtics. 5 future hall of famers starting for that team, and they all complimented each other.

Great topic.
Lakers in 2003-2004 would be up there somewhere: Shaq, Karl Malone, Kobe, Gary Payton, Horace Grant.
Celtics fan for life.

Not really on the same level, but the 2006-2007 Heat had an interesting collection:

Payton, Wade, Shaq, Alonzo Mourning, Eddie Jones, Antoine Walker, Jason Williams

That has 3 Hall of Famers another who probably would have been in the Hall of Fame if not for an illness derailing his career, 2 3-time All-Stars, and then a fan favorite type high profile player in Williams.

'79-80 Celtics had an end of the line Maravich & Cowens along with Tiny and rookie Bird.

Not the greatest but not too shabby, either.

I was thinking of that Lakers squad.  Not "better" than the 2011 C's, but it's fairly close.

Shaq = Shaq
Kobe > Pierce
Karl Malone < KG
Gary Payton > Rondo
Horace Grant <> JO, if we're talking about their peak years.

But, that Lakers squad didn't have a Ray Allen.  Next best career on that team was probably D-Fish, or maybe Rick Fox.
