Jeff Green is better than Rudy Gay, in my opinion.

He's more efficient, has a better low post game, has a better 3, finishes stronger, and has a much, much, much better contract.

Gay is pretty clutch, but whose to say Green isn't? He has a couple game winners this season.


Seriously - based on Green's last season, I think that if he and Gay swapped places, Green would put up better numbers. You can't dominate as much being the 3rd/4th option on a team.

I like Gay though and I honor anybody's opinion stating that he's better than Green. The thing is - who would call Green a superstar? You'd be hilariously ignorant to notion that. Green would put up Gay-type numbers in his situation.

Rudy Gay is great and all, but he's not going to help us at all. All of our rebuilding schemes would go for naught and Gay would send us to mediocrity.

I disagree, I think Gay is a really good player.  Does a little of everything, is clutch, and can defend.  I'd love to see what he can do in the right situation.  I'd like to see him in Portland, Minnesota, Chicago, or Washington.

He's a really good player to be sure. Way too many holes to be superstar though.

Every superstar has holes.  Rudy Gay does not have that many.

Below average shooter.
Bad habit of going iso despite bad shooting.
Underwhelming rebounder considering his size and athleticism.
Bad passer.
Absolutely awful AST:TO.
Poor leadership skills.
Demonstrated no improvement at all in 7 whole NBA seasons.
If anything, he has steadily gotten worse since his sophomore breakout.

Yes, Rudy Gay has many. There's a reason why Gay hasn't even been elected an All-Star yet, let alone reach superstar status.

Green is slightly worse but gets paid half of what Gay does. I'll take Green any day.

-I'd strongly disagree that he's gotten worse since his sophmore year.  His stats may seem to show that, but watching him, you can see what a better all around player he is.

I do agree with you that Jeff Green provides far more bang for the buck.  Although I do challenge you to look at every single one of those criticisms (except improvement) and then look at how much more severely worse Jeff Green is at all of them than Gay (esp rebounding, leadership, and passing)

Not many other SFs in the league compare favorably to him in terms of size and athleticism. The fact that you mentioned Ilyasova as a comparable rebounder proves my point.

Rudy Gay's jumpshot isn't a thing of beauty. He's a career 45% shooter and he shot 41.6% this past season.

What kinds of things are we talking about that make him a better "all around player"? You're clearly not referring to him passing more or rebounding more, since those are stats. So, I mean, what? Is he setting better screens? Lol.

Not sure why you're challenging me to compare Green and Gay though. I acknowledged Green is worse, but is far more worth his salary, which you seem to agree with as well.

Green is much cheaper, and I'm not sure Gay is even an upgrade over him.  There are a lot of things about Gay's game that I don't like.  Rather just stick with Green.

Jeff Green showed improvement yes, but he disappears more than he shows up. He had a lot of success due too his advanced minutes with Celtics running a small lineup and he wasnnever an emphasis on opposing defenses. Don't get me wrong i really like his game, but i think Rudy Gay is a proven asset. You switch Rudy and Green right now and the Celticsaare a #4-5 seed.

What some call disappearing, I see as refusing to force bad shots.
