  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I don't get this Tank fascination. Boston wants to rebuild around something and this something is RR and JG along with Sully and Bradley. If you goal is to have nobody but wiggins or parker in boston, how long to you think you are going to wait until you get an established team who can have a solid shot at the title?
You keep RR and you can compete in 2 years. You get rid of him and you'll have to wait like OKC (IF you are lucky at the draft).
If you love tanking just be a fan of Charlotte or okc or new orleans... but here we are not tanking, we are rebuilding. Yes we might get a top10 pick next year but we won't be the bobcats this season.
I still laugh every time I hear the phrase "build around Jeff Green". He's a 3rd option at best for a contending team and you're in big trouble if you're building around a No.3 guy. Build around Rondo makes sense. But please, Jeff Green is a complementary piece, not a building block.
So where do we find this "number 1 option"?

You find by flippung the assets we already have. You dont need to trade Rondo as he can be the best no. 2 for that no. 1 option.

Unless you guarantee a superstar, franchise player in return, you dont trade your best player for the sake of getting a chance to get said guy, especially when youbhave a ton of assets to begin with already.

Itherwise we'll end up with a number 1and a no. 2 option who should be really a third option, all while we are stuck in the same predicament looking for a jumber 2.

This is what I've learned about tanking

It didn't work with Duncan

It didn't work with Oden

Everyone will be trying to do it.

It didn't work for the Cavs when they got Lebron.

It didn't work for the Magic when they got D Howard

It didn't work for the Magic when they got Shaq AND then got Chris Webber the next year

It didn't work for the Charlotte Hornets when they got Larry Johnson AND Alonzo Mourning the next year

It didn't work for the Trailblazers when they picked Clyde Drexler and then got Sam Bowie the next year

It didn't work for us when we got Len Bias (which wasn't tanking but nevertheless)

We didn't get Paul Pierce from tanking

It didn't work for whoever tanked for Chris Paul. Because Paul wasn't in the top two picks that year. Then the team that did get him lost him to the Clippers. And the Clippers haven't done anything with him either even though tanking got them Blake Griffin

It didn't work for the Knicks when they got Ewing

Tanking doesn't work.

Getting lucky soooommeeettiiiimmesss works. It worked for the Spurs. It might work for the Thunder at some point.  But mostly it just doesn't work. Neither does trading your stars for 70 cents on the dollar

why trade you two best players who are just approaching their peak years for unknowns with great potential....don't forget green was a #5 pick
