Ainge spoke to Scalabrine about coaching

Scal is going to b a fine nba coach. He already has experience as an assistant/player.Its ridiculous ppl think bc he wasnt a star player, he cant be a good coach or not respected. It might be ideal if he starts out coaching a young team but still. Many nba coaches never even got to play nba ball. I like the brad stevens signing but if scal got a shot i would be happy also.

Ainge must read this blog. Why else would he even consider Scalabrine as HC of the Celtics.

As for those who question Stevens experience coaching in the NBA. How many years has Jason Kidd coached at all??

Am I the only one who HONESTLY believes that Scal was a great player? I think you win games with players like Scal. Amazing hustle, clutch, and smart. Teams sucked before he came, were great when he got there, and sucked when he left. It's no coincidence. He was the true most valuable player.

Well, I certainly don't think Scal was a great player. The guy was a 3rd string player, at best. Fans chanted his name at the Garden only so they could get a laugh when he came onto the court.

Also, not quite sure where you are getting the idea that teams got really good when he joined them.

I wouldn't hire him to be a coach. He just doesn't strike me as someone who would be a successful coach.

I think Scal would make an excellent assistant coach.  Could be a very good support system to help make sure Stevens can relate to NBA players properly (not saying he can't on his own, however).

Although a generalization, players like Scal, who had limited ability but made it as NBA due to their intelligence, tend to make good coaches.

Physically limited guys who carve out a long career tend to make really good coaches - they stuck around as players because they understood the game so well.  Scal seems well-respected around the league and will probably get a shot as an assistant somewhere if he wants it.
