Whatever we can trade Rondo for once his trade value is re-established is the key to the future.

I agree trading him for a lottery pick in next years draft is key to the future.

In 2006-7, the C's 'man' was Paul Pierce.  His supporting cast was Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Tony Allen, Delonte, Telfair, Perk, Gerald Green, Szerbiak and rookies Rondo and Powe.   Not very impressive.

Thoughts of building around Pierce were pretty similar to what we think about building around Rondo. Talented player, a star, but may need to be a 1B if the team is going to prosper.  Rondo can be a building block but maybe not the #1 guy.  Though as PG he will be the engine and is certainly A key if not THE key to the future.

I think the C's current roster (plus the 9 1st rounders over the next 5 years) is more talented than what the C's had in 2006-07. Danny is the key to the future.

Well, I disagree with you in that I don't think we have any prospects on the same level as Big Al.  We also will still need to get a top pick in a nice draft to have the same level of assets that Danny had back then.

Even if we have the same type of assets, there has to be the opportunity -- which two Hall of Fame caliber stars not yet past their prime are going to become available in the next couple of years?
