The following are the ages each net will be in the season leading up to that years draft.

Brooklyn Nets:'14*'15'16*'17^'18^
D. Williams2930313233
J. Johnson3233343536
P. Pierce    3637383940
K. Garnett  3738394041
B. Lopez    2526272829
J. Terry     3637383940

* : The celtics own that years first rounder
^ : The celtics have the right to chose the first rounder they prefer

When can we expect this team to break down? It really depends on whether Pierce and Garnett retire. If they only last two more years like people are expecting. That will leave the nets with a 34 year-old joe johnson, Deron Williams and Brook Lopez. That team could potentially miss the playoffs. But if Garnett and Pierce defy the odds and continue to play for the 2016 season, i think that team could still be a playoff team.

Brooke Lopez has a player option following the 2014/2015 season. If both Pierce and Garnett retire, and the skills of either Johnson and Williams erode earlier than expected, maybe Lopez leaves at THAT point. That is our best case scenario.  It would net us lottery picks in 2016 and 2017, which would follow what we have already gotten from the 2014 and 2015 drafts.

There are two KEY developments to pay attention to:

1. Are Pierce and Garnett one, two or three year players for the Nets? They will likely be two year players, hopefully for us they are two year players.

2. Joe Johnson. He is the most likely Net to implode. Johnson and Williams will be owed 46 million in the 2016 season, and that would be their cap hit during the offseason where Brook Lopez could opt out at 27 and in his prime.

Just one bump to give the thread a chance.

Their future seems to be tied heavily to whether or not Bojan Bogdanovic will live up to the comparisons to Peja Stojakovic.

To a lesser extent, they may need to get something out of Mirza Teletovic or Toko Shengelia (who apparently is not part of the trade), either as a solid contributor or as a trade asset.

Where are you getting that the celtics don't own the Nets 2018 and can only swap?

Because of JJ's contract the Nets have limited flexibility. So our best shot at a lottery pick would probably be 2016, when all those players contracts' are peaking and they're at a past prime age.

Probably just a typo, every report of the trade says its for 3 picks 14,16,18.

I heard they also hold the option to swap in '17. Don't know if that is in lieu of or in addition to the '18 pick, but that was also reported yesterday.

Brooklyn has a future... as our "young player" farm.

May they win our boys a ring in 2014 and 2015, and then crater with a force like the fist of an angry god. Bring on those lotto picks.
