I don't think it was ever a big secret that Wyc was going to take it more personally than DA.

The dude bleeds green, for better or worse.

Did you not see DA's presser?  He was clearly still reeling from it.  But he took the high and professional road.

Wyc IMO did as well, speaking a bit more candidly as a way of supporting his GM.

No, I didn't.

What's not said but underlying, in my opinion, is Doc wanted another go around with KG & PP, before a full rebuild and Danny and Wyc did not.  That was the disagreement that made it time for Doc to go.

I can almost guarantee that if Doc had agreed to stay, KG and Paul would have at least started the season with Boston.  It doesn't look like the Clips were ever really interested in KG for DeAndre and I don't think Ainge would have been too thrilled with any of the other offers out there.  And if the team is playing well with KG and Pierce, I think Danny might have just let them ride this season out and take the cap savings from Paul's deal expiring and KG's likely retirement.

Of course, if the team played as poorly as they did to start this past season, KG and Pierce would absolutely have been traded before the deadline.

Mike both KG and Pierce would have been traded at the deadline last year if the Celtics had continued losing when Rondo went down. There is absolutely no question in my mind Danny was about to pull the trigger on some deals and Doc would probably have stepped down with the team blown up. Do not commit a long term deal to your coach unless you commit to his star players. The BIG domino has fallen and that turned out to be Doc Rivers. Pierce is next shortly followed by KG.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Wow...what?

Don't sign a multi year deal with a coach unless you do the same for the players he chooses? What do we need a G.M. for? Do we even need scouts? Does the coach do that himself? I'm being sarcastic but that sentence kinda blew me away.

Never been a Rivers fan as a coach, glad he's gone, ....BUT...

I truly believe the "rationalization" that Rivers sensed that he was being ineffective here and it was best for all parties that he moved on.

Best decision that you have made for awhile, Rivers, Good-bye.

AMEN!
LET'S GO CELTICS!

It's possible to be understanding.

Doc was a very good coach for us.  But he wanted to leave after winning a title (very important) and he didn't go to Miami or anything.

I love Doc as a coach and he is a great speaker and leader.  Good luck to him except when he is against the Celtics.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
When Wyc talks about Doc's win and losses stats it immediately makes me think that we are tanking for sure.
They've told Doc it's time to give up the KG/Pierce dreams and move on to a rebuild.
Doc wasn't interested and wanted KG and Pierce to LAC.
KG and Pierce are probably both gone by the trade deadline, I'm assuming draft night one of them will go.

I'm actually super stoked about this because they either want to pick up a player like Josh Smith but still consider us sucking/tanking or they aren't going to bother with any large contract free agents and will rather take on salary/bums for picks and assets.
I'd prefer the latter option to ensure we have a good shot at Parker or Wiggins or Randle.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I think Danny sounded hurt that Doc wanted to leave...

Talking about selling Doc on the five year deal...
"I thought I did do a very good sales job on Doc, at that time....Maybe he did a sales job on me."

Anyway, they are all making it clear that this was Doc's idea.
