Here is the playoff rotation/roster that Danny gave Doc to coach during the championship season, in no particular order:

KG, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Rondo, Posey, Eddie House, Perk, PJ Brown, Powe, Tony Allen, Sam Casell, Baby Davis.

Does anyone think they couldn't coach that team to a title?

To me, that shocking part is that team got slowly dismantled. That roster was perfect.  I know injuries cost them the next year, and the Rasheed year, but it took a lot of great moves to reach the top and bad luck and bad moves to fall back.

My own opinion is that Doc is an average coach, perhaps at best. He has some strengths but he has been awful at deciding who he should have on the floor. I don't think we will miss him much, but we are getting crushed missing the championship players or guys that should have replaced them on the team.

The big issue going forward is relying on the decisions the guy makes who both put together that title roster and then dismantled it. That is ALL on Danny and the owners.

But, by 2001 he looks really bad. He was 12-22 when he got canned, and Obie took essentially the same roster to 49-33 and the conference finals the next year.

That was probably one of the weakest ECF teams I can remember.   They really had no business being there with their talent level.

Yeah, I certainly agree that they over-achieved. The regular season record was a big improvement though. Some of that had to do with Pierce's emergence as a major star, of course.
