He basically paid money (by walking from a bigger contract from BOS) to for this ring and lost a legacy with a historic franchise. Any ring he wins will pale in comparison to anything accomplished in Boston. I'd personally rather have my numbers in the rafters alongside legends of the game than an extra ring that I rode coattails for.

Uh, I think I'd take the extra ring. Are you following the C's? This legacy stuff only comes from winning mostly. That's why Doc tried to leave. That's why KG is willing to waive his no trade clause to go to LAC. The Celtics are not a winning franchise right now. Ray knew that and left. Doc knows that and has tried to leave. If anyone thinks this hurt Ray's legacy in any way is just dreaming.

He can have fun at his jersey retirement ceremony.

honest question -- would you rather have your jersey retired (assuming the Celts would have done so) or another ring?

Exactly, lol..all this "legacy" talk is funny. If that was the case Boston would be swarming with FA's to be a part of the "legacy". The players want to get paid and win championships. If they can do both they're quite satisfied. It's the fans that care about the legacy and loyalty.

Boston didn't want him. They tried trading him but Memphis decided they didn't want him.  We didn't make signing ray a priority.  We benched him for the overrated Bradley and then signed terry for ray to split minute with.  Bad situation.  Boston was back to being a fringe playoff team and Miami was a contender.  He made a wise choice signing with them.  He hit the biggest shot of the year.  Dude is completely vindicated. He improved his legacy this year in a big way.

Yup, people saying he ruined his legacy couldn't be any more of a homer. He hit the biggest shot of the entire year and won a title folks, who even cares about your Jersey being retired in the garden, lol. it'll be hanging in the hall of fame, and he has more rings then pierce or kg and has played the most game sevens in NBA history

If he misses that jump shot in game 6 Lebron is being called a choke artist right now. Sigh.
That's the saddest part of this all imo. The narrative would have been completely reversed.

You're really sad about it?

And narrative... implying a construction.  That's about right because with LeBron they aren't in the game when Ray hits the shot.  I guess LeBron hit a three right before that too, that happened.
