Two-way players who impact the game on both ends.  People underestimate how difficult it is to play 4-on-5 on either end.

2/3/4's who can take over a game without taking like 20 shots
people who look to create as well as score, and can defend as well
people who play team first, themselves second
i try to emulate most of these traits in my own play

My favorites are the highly skilled athletic swings. The guys who can put up 20+/5+/5+ on a nightly basis while scoring from anywhere on the floor. The 90's were full of them, (Jordan(the first?), Penny, McGrady, VC, etc) but that has really died down. Kobe is the last of them still playing at a really high level, IMO.

You have to have both skill and athleticism to pull stuff like that off.

I'll take the guy who can drop 50+ points without shooting a 3 and while only taking 13 foul shots.  Scoring in the paint over and over again takes skill and athleticism as well.

McHale's big game in '85.  Went into MSG and dropped 42 two nights later, in the paint.

I don't know if there's just one type of player I like because I like players like Jordan and Pierce that not only play both sides of tha court but live for and thrive in 4th quarters. I like closers and players that aren't afraid of a big moment.

I also like players (bigs) that dominate in tha paint. I miss how bigs use to push opposing players far under tha basket and dominate tha glass. Bigs that consistently put up 20/10.

Variously:

-Undersized guys who play with oversized amounts of attitude and intensity. AI, Rodman and Barkley hold high esteem in my personal pantheon.

-Players who talk trash.

-Players with big, Dr. J/Ben Wallace afros.

-Players who play good defense.

-Players who aren't anointed with universal accolades regarding greatness.

syfy got another TP, love post play.

I love a player who does whatever he is needed to do, and do it through fundamentals rather than physical assets. Bird was that and he excelled at everything, the best player I've watched in my life.

Great passing is also beautiful, and I hope Rondo retires in green (after a looong career) because he's the best passer in the game.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

Kobe scored 81 from everywhere and it was very pretty :)

Junk food tastes better than veggies, but ask a person what their favorite food is they're probably not naming a veggie. You catch my drift?

Give me defense.  I don't care the position; I just love watching one guy shut down his matchup, time after time after time.

TP. This is precisely the reason I love basketball as much as I do, I'll take amazing D over the flashy O any day of the week.

Doesn't happen that often a game but anytime a team can force a 24sec violation without the opposing side even being able to put a shot up makes me happy and has more of a chance to cause a reaction or put me on the edge of my seat.
