Scola was claimed on amnesty waivers, which made him ineligible to be traded for a year, a period that ends this off-season.

With Channing Frye returning from heart problems that had him sit out last season, the Suns don't need Scola, especially if they feel like going into the season with tanking on their mind.  They may have even claimed him with the intention of trading him.

As a veteran big who can rebound with both a post offense and a midrange jumper and who has experience playing occasionally as a smallball center in Houston, I think he is a good fit for the Celtics and a team coached by Doc Rivers.

I'm not sure if Phoenix is willing to give Scola up since he is relatively cheap and I am not sure the Celtics can offer more than other teams if he is available.  Ainge wouldn't (and shouldn't) cough up the Celtics' 2013 first round pick for Scola, but a team picking in the late 20s probably wouldn't have the same qualms about giving up the sort of assets that a cheapskate team like the Suns would prefer.
Too small to play efficient post defense + poor rebounder = not addressing the two main issues we need to address when adding a big.

Scola's adequate on defense and a decent rebounder whose rebounding rate was compable this past season to Pau Gasol and Lamarcus Aldridge.
Well yeah, and it's comparable to Brandon Bass' rebounding rate, too. All of these have rebounded in the 11.5 - 13.5 % range over the last several years. That doesn't make them good rebounders (the average for PFs who play 20+ minutes per game is 14.2).

Scola had a 14.1 rebounding rate last season and 14.6 for his career.  It would be wildly inaccurate to place Scola on the same tier of rebounders as Brandon Bass.

Hoopdata puts him at 12% last year and 13.6% this year. His career best season is lower than what Sullinger had in his half season as a rookie.

I'm using the data from basketball-reference.com, but I think it is reasonable to say that, as a rebounder, Scola is closer to Sullinger-level than Bass-level.  Scola looks like a league-average rebounder for a PF according to hoopdata, so I think it would be very wrong to call him a poor rebounder.

Why?

17.5 --- 14.6 ---- 12.3
     2.9       2.3

I do think a trade is very possible since Phoenix has a surplus of PF's (Morris twins & Frye). At the same time their starting SG is/was Shannon Brown. I think a Terry or Lee for Scola helps out both teams. And surely the Ainge/McDonough relationship doesn't hurt.

On the court, I like two things that Scola brings to the table that Bass doesn't, that's low post/back to the basket offense & passing ability.

I don't want Scola, he's a thug

Isn't that why some people want Perkins back?

I hate Scola's game and always have. If we could ship Bass out for a better piece and used Scola as a replacement then maybe I would bite... Other than that I have no interest in Scola. He is aging and I am in the camp that isnt sold on his ability to rebound.

I am sick of Celtic power forwards with virtually a negative vertical leap.
