I guess I was thinking Shav at center and KG at power forward.
In a vacuum, this is what I would like to see, and surmise would be our best pairing from a defense and rebounding perspective.
The problem is that the Knicks like to play Melo at PF a lot, and I'm not sure how well KG can guard him on the perimeter any more. It also means Shav would be defending Chandler. That would be a difficult match-up for us, as well.
It just seems, to me, that the Knicks are better equipped to force the match-ups. I just don't think KG is as capable, any more, of exploiting his advantage on the offensive end against Melo, as Melo is capable of exploiting his advantages against KG. Now, maybe having Green and Pierce on the court, when KG is also on the court, will tilt the overall advantage in our favor, as the Knicks don't have the requisite personnel to match-up against both.
Ultimately, I just don't think we'll see much of KG/Shav, due to these match-up problems. KG and Bass, with Green and Pierce, is still probably our best counter to Melo at PF. Depending on who the Knicks play at SF, Bass could possibly cross-match, and allow Green or Pierce to defend Melo. We'll probably end up seeing a whole lot of Green at PF, with Bradley and Lee in the back-court, though.
I guess we'll find out in a couple weeks.
