Fun to speculate, but most likely it just means there is one more spot for a guard left. Even if we have three roster spots he is only going to keep one more guard. I think it very likely that we fill all 15 spots to start but cut one by mid December.

I also wouldnt be surprised to see us in the hunt for another long athletic wing or combo forward. Someone who has been around but has plenty left in the tank. A Tayshaun Prince type player to add later is what I am trying to say.

We have 2 spots left...

I think he probably misspoke when he said last spot. It's probably him forgetting to subtract Dooling off of the amount of players we have (like he knows Dooling is gone but forgot to subtract him from the spots filled at that moment).
Anything is possible but in my limited experience, Danny Ainge does not misspeak. Rather he is careful what he says and how he says it. Being such an astute business man and manager does not allow for many such instances of poorly chosen words.

Have to take Joseph with one of the them given his size and our relative lack of depth at SF.

I would prefer XMas over Jamar Smith, who is nothing more than a 6-foot gunner (even though I love those types).  XMas is more physical and fits better as a bench player.

The reality is that even if we were to lose one of our non-Rondo guards to a season ending injury, we'd still be OK without even having to rely on a Joseph, Christmas, or Smith.  Just by taking everyone's averages from last season, we can see this:

Rondo 37/Terry 13
Lee 31/Terry 18

And that covers all the 1 and 2 minutes keeping everyone at least year's averages without even touching the rookies.

And if we wanted to lower Terry's minutes, we could slide Pierce to the 2 for 5-10 mpg to give Green more time at the 3 spot (and consequently open more minutes for Sully at the 4).  Pierce may be slowing down, but I have no doubt that he could at least hang with the backup 2s of the league.

So while I would've preferred Dooling to stick around for leadership and extra insurance, even without Bradley (or if Lee or Terry went down once Bradley is back), we're still in a pretty good place.  Worst case scenario, one of the rookies has to play the odd few minutes here or there in the regular season.

I say we waive Fab Melo & Keep Jamar & Christmas. Melo is a work in progress & probably isn't going to see any playing time. KG, Wilcox, Milicic, Collins, Bass, & Sullinger are all ahead of him @ the 5. Waive him & let him sign on to the Dleague.

I would hope it is a joke. It would take a complete absence of basketball knowledge to think that Melo would have to get signed by the d-league. Pretty much every other team in the NBA would be willing to give up a roster spot to develop him.

I love it when people think the NBA is like the NFL or the MLB.

& how are we going to develop this kid??? if anything than waive Jason Collins. I thought he was way too soon of a rushed pick-up. We have too many bigs.

Yes. I thought it was a little rushed too.

But I like the depth at the 5. We can throw KG, Darko and Jason Collins at the likes of Dwight Howard and Bynum and LeBron James.

The 12 hard fouls from Darko and Collins are going to be extra hard.

I would just like to say one thing, and you, or anyone reading this can quote me at any time in the future:

There is no such thing, as too many bigs.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.
