Bennett was a beast last year in college and in tremendous shape. I wonder if going number one went to his head and he decided to party and take the summer off rather than working twice as hard to live up to the expectation of going number one.

Hard to believe that college players wouldn't show up to their first NBA camp not in the best shape of their lives, but that appears to be what Brown is saying about Bennett.

Anthony Bennett is definitely the kind of player who will drop out of the league quickly unless he has the work ethic to keep his body in tip-top shape.

In any case, I hope the Cavs are happy that they selected Brandlen "Big Bass" Davis with the #1 pick.

This past year's draft was pretty much a crapshoot at the top anyways.  Pretty weak, IMO.  Teams were kinda [dang]ed if they do, [dang]ed if they don't.

That being said, drafting for need over talent when you have a top 3 pick is often a recipe for disaster. And I think that's what the Cavs did here.

Oh wow. Asthma, Sleep apnea, overweight. Yikes. I would have been p---ed off if the Celtics drafted him with a number 1 pick. Brutal.

Based on what I read at places like Wages of Wins prior to the draft, Oladipo was more or less a sure thing.  Not as a star, but his numbers put him squarely in the category of players who are going to be valuable once they get into the NBA.

It's definitely disturbing how bad he's been, but you do have to keep a few things in mind:

1) AFAIK he was in great shape before surgery. Being way out of shape is going to kill you when thrown to the NBA wolves for the first time, but he might just be a young kid who had surgery, didn't manage his offseason well, and got, well, fat. It's not necessarily chronic.

2) He played about 5 games equivalent in the preseason (171 minutes) and filled up the stat sheet pretty well (75 pts on 69 fga, 43 rbs, 9 threes, got to the line, 4 blk, 4 stl)

3) Someone, maybe a coach, could try running him some simple plays inside the three point line. I'm always baffled when teams take a guy who was a dominant college PF and immediately encourage him to play like a SF. Never, ever works. Takes time, if it's even the right choice at all.

4) So far the rebounding, blocks, steals all look like he'll be fine (and good).

Don't get me wrong, 1-20 is just awful, but I do think a little better coaching and a lot better conditioning, and he could look like a much different player in a few months.

Just happy,  DA spent the time and pic to get KO........I think he was the steal of the draft .....if people knew then draft day what they know now ......Celtics would have never landed Kelly or for that matter Sullinger the year before.

Fab Melo and JJJ withstanding ,  DA has drafted picks better than where they were taken.

Vitor and Pressey make up for Fab in my mind anyway.

yep, Vitor himself makes up for Fab, and honestly, as upset as I was to take Fab instead of PJ3, none of the players taken after Fab have done particularly well so far anyway.
