No brainer...

People are looking at it as Green + Sullinger being more valuable than Perk, and I agree.

Realistically though it's ever bigger than that, because it's Green + Sullinger vs nobody.

So many people forget that Perk wanted a big pay check that season and wanted more then Boston could offer.  It was no secret that if he didn't get what he wanted (which Boston couldn't give him) then he would have signed elsewhere and we would have received nothing in return.

So at the end of the day, there was ZERO chance of Perkins coming back - it was not probable, but CERTAIN that he was leaving.

Even if the above wasn't true I'd take Green+Sully over him in a heartbeat, but when you take all that into consideration it's not even debatable.

Then even if you think of that present time (that individual season) you need to consider that Perk had a major injury and only just returned at the time he was traded.  There were no guarantees that his body would hold up, and for all we knew he may have lasted 10 days, reinjured himself and then been out for the rest of th season (a la Shaq).

For a guy to be  worth that type of risk he would have had to be a seriously elite big man (or someone with the potential tro become elite) and Perk was no Dwight Howard.

Seems like we had offered or at least a rumor that Perk turned down about 6 million per from us and that may have sparked the deal. I dont thimk OKC has buyers remorse, but I do think they realize they overpaid by a good bit for him.

I would be willing to bet that the Knicks feel like they overpaid for Tyson Chandler. I doubt they would ever admit it. The line usually is "that is what a center costs in todays market" which means that the agent ripped us off and we had to pay it to get a center.

I saw us lose a ring when Perk went down against the Lakers. There was no reason to fix what wasn't broken and I will always see that as a ring thrown away.

This is typically called a "counterfactual."

Jeff Green - 26 years old.

If he stay healthy, which I think he will, I think he can be a 15 and 6 guy in short order. I also think if he lets it rip he has a little bit of James Worthy in his game "meaning" he's a great athlete with legit 6'9" size and real speed up and down the court. In this sense he reminds me of Worthy and I think he could end up getting a lot of easy baskets and trips to the line when getting out on the break with Rondo.

Jared Sullinger - 22 years old?

If this guy reaches his apparent ceiling I think he's easily a 12-15 point per night scorer, a real low post threat and possibly a monster on the boards - maybe 8-9 a game.

So, 10+ years of Green and 12+ years of Sully, theoretically - versus Kendrick Perkins, a nine year vet with major knee surgery?

I'm good with the trade.

Now, if Perkins were amnestied, I'd do whatever I could to get him back in Green. One of my all time favorite Celtic players. Love his toughness and scowl around the rim.

What a nice end to the story that woudl actually be if he got amnestied, came back to Boston and helped raise #18...   :)

I can agree with this.

That's the sad thing about the whole situation..even with KG being hobbled, I think if Perk hadn't went down we would've had enough to take LA in 09-10.

Once Perk got hurt, though, I can now see why Danny had to make the move. Perk, in his form in 10-11, wouldn't have been enough to get us past MIA.

BOS still owes LA one for that series...hopefully BOS can cash it in in June 2013.

The Boston Celtics VS the Los Angeles Lakers - ONE MORE TIME....grudge match....PLEASE.

Make it happen, Stern! ;D

Nothing against Perk or Nate but I've been in SHOCK since this trade that anyone can think anything BUT we got a steal.  We'd have a very good backup center in krstic if not for lockout.  I could be wrong but if he comes back to the nba (we'd welcome him back) I think we have first dibs or can be compensated.
So Perk and Nate for Jeff Green and Sully....put your perk love aside, great guy but a one dimensional player who thankfully played near kg.  Same KG that made Hollins look acceptable last year  :-[
Perk is a good backup center in the league, if he is a starter than you have to have a great pf/sf combo, if you are paying him good $$$ then its simply a mistake.  Great trade by ainge

No that it matters per your point, but JS is just 20.  Won't be 21 till March.
