Lantinm,

Great find on Morris Almond!!  I agree that our bench needs some scoring punch.  Did everyone watch that awful performance last night by our bench against the worst (by far) team in the league??  Yes we were shorthanded, but the Bobcats' bench obliterated us!!  Humiliating.

BTW, Morris is 27 years old!!!  Been around for a while and has consistently shot at a high percentage!!

Get him Danny!!  (You will owe Lantinm at least a lunch Danny:-))

Smitty77

Thanks, Smitty77.  Our bench was mediocre (even with Pietrus), but now it is terrible (without him).  Almond is immediately an upgrade over Daniels (who shouldn't even be in the league, imho). I'e had enough of Dooling's bad shot selection and awkward looking jumper for a lifetime.  I don't see the harm in at least giving him a 10-day contract.

With Pietrus out and Bradley filling in for Ray, the 2nd unit desperately needs a scorer.  I know that he doesn't play D real well, but Morris Almond can score and could help the 2nd unit.  He's currently playing right under Danny's nose in Maine.  Heck, just give him a 10-day contract for now.  He's got some SICK shooting percentages.

For what reason?  He's a rookie. (technically)..Therefore he'd never play.

yet steamer and bradley get minutes. should we hope doc doesnt find out they are young player and bench them?

i dont know how many times the myth of doc refusing categorically to play all rookies has been dismissed here.

please, let's do better than repeat disproven myths again and again.

as stated before on this forum by numerous posters, they should sign jeff green for the min this season with o'neal roster spot so as to reduce jeff's cap hold in 12-13, and create more cap space

They should have about $24 mill in room with pierce, rondo, moore, bradley, stiemsma, jujuan, and draft picks signed,

it might take around $15 million to resign garnett and allen

that leaves around $9 million in cap space, after jeff green signs, little room would be left, unless he had a low cap hold value, and you used the room before signing him.

No to Almond, he was terrible in the Spanish ACB league, so I can't see him as a rotation player for the Celtics. Maybe the Bobcats, but not the Celtics.

I agree with 33_Larry about Dawson. By his stats, he seems like a decent player who could be an 11th/12th player off the bench, but it would be great if someone who's watched him play could tell if he's that good.

About JO, they should cut him, and bring a FA PF. We're set at the third stringer center department.

I'd love to see us add Greg Oden, if he has any interest in agreeing to a two-year deal at the minimum.  There's not a huge incentive for him to do so, though, so maybe it's a pipe dream.

I don't mind that idea.
I'm surprised this wasn't attempted.  wonder if it has anything to do with loyalty Oden may be feeling towards Portland after not being able to play for them so far.

Oden was waived by Portland and he has sold his house in the city, so it's not about that. But I read that he was contemplating retirement at one point, and that he would want to join Indiana Pacers (he grew up and played high school basketball in Indiana). Not saying that he would say no to Boston, but I don't think that he is considering that right now.

Aside from guys with life-threatening issues or traumatic family issues, I don't think I've ever felt as bad for an athlete as Oden.  I realize he's made some money and that he's not the first can't-miss guy to fall from grace, but he was so hyped and so visible, it's just too bad he couldn't stay on the court.  He seems like a good guy whose very young body just gave out on him far too soon. I hope he is doing OK mentally.

I don't think we are, but that's because I'd rather see Hollins as fourth-string.  Count me *not* among his fan club.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Unfortunately, he can't contribute.  Otherwise he'd be playing.

And that has been today's sermon on the Divine Infallibility of Pope Doc the First.

February 12th, 2012.  Boston vs. Chicago.

JaJuan Johnson - 33 minutes, 6-13, 12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, 1 block, 3 turnover.  Boston wins 95-91.

Yeah, we're definitely talking about a player who can't contribute.

Mike

It's never been about JJJ's lack of offense. Doc has stated that JJJ is comfortable scoring. Unfortunately his defense, particularly his rotations are appalling. He can block quite well in 1v1 situations but his help is vomit worthy at times, and he blatantly forgets where to go on offense. He's been given decent opportunities this year.

By the way ,4 rebounds and 3 turnovers in 33 minutes for a power forward isn't exactly All Star material haha. I wonder if he was actually + PER this game.

I like the kid, and he's got potential but you're raising his level purely because you seem to hate Doc Rivers. He'll have plenty of time to develop while we are in tank mode next year.
We lost so many games at the start of the season that putting the rookies in for 'practice' time when the game is within 15 points has been tough.
That second unit blows every lead against every team(well almost).
From this point on we cannot afford any losses, the playoffs are literally on the line.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

You're conveniently leaving out the game before in a loss to the Toronto Raptors when in 8 minutes he scored 1 hoop from 3 attempts, grabbed 1 rebound and got berated by Doc for not knowing the offensive sets.

And also the 5 game losing streak that followed the chicago game in which Jajuan Johnson also got significant minutes.

You're also choosing to ignore the fact that in a shortened season with a reasonably stacked rotation at PF, Johnson has already had significantly more minutes than Avery did last year in a full 82 game season.

Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston (ALL WITH VERY GOOD COMPETENT COACHES) have all played their first round picks less than Doc has with Jajuan Johnson.

Rasual Butler anyone?

With Pietrus out for how long? I say we could use a 6'7" swingman who can score. He's playoff eligible too. Certainly would hurt but I can see where he'd be redundant to Pavlovic or Marquis. Kinda the opposite direction of the Balkman poster, scoring vs rebounding.

The 2/3 minutes really belong to Peitrus. There are about 28 minutes available at the 2/3 for a reserve and that should all go to Peitrus. If Rondo plays 38 the 10 or so left over belong to Bradley. So any swingmen who come in probably won't play much after he gets back. I really don't know why Dooling was even on the court while Peitrus was playing.

I also wonder if a new big man would really get any minutes? KG & Bass will consume 32 & 36 minutes a game each at the 4/5. Again, that leaves 28 minutes to mess with. Steimsma will get ~18-20 of those as he's playing very well of late (for a backup anyways). Those used to be Wilcox's minutes. the other 8-10? That's Hollins right? Who out there is going to supplant the Steimsma/Hollins at this point?

Screw it...people here want to tank anyways...sign Antoine Walker and his rolls from Boise Idaho....

Actually I wouldn't mind just agreeing to a 2 year deal with either Oden or Green now.
