Yeah, like the Hornets, I'd rather rebuild than take on Martin and Scola for the next few years.  Those guys are decent enough players, but they are complementary pieces at best.

What's the big fascination with rebuilding? I don't get it. Didn't we get enought of that with the horrid teams from 2005-2007, pre-KG?

because rebuilding is much, much more likely to result in getting a real franchise player and meaningful post-season success with the chance at a title than compiling mid level assets and competing for a low playoff seed for years and years on end.

Its easier to say that if you didnt follow the team pre big 3 era

Whether you like it or not... this team is already in rebuilding mode.  We're not good enough to win a title and our best players are getting worse...  if you want a decade of mediocrity, you stand pat and bleed out slowly...   if you want a chance at recovery within the next 5 years, you blow this thing up, stack young assets, draft picks and cap space and hope for the best.

I totally disgree! How are the Celtics currently in rebuilding mode? Last I checked, they're still 14-12 and in the Eastern Conf., that's a pretty good record.

Secondly, I really HATE the idea of purposefully throwing a couple seasons away. This alleged "rebuilding" needs to be done with some tact. And I can tell you that right now, NO ONE in Boston will buy the "rebuilding" theory.

Boston sports fans like myself want winners, not teams that are going to be awful now and then contend when my first grandchild is born.

People need to realize, the Celtics can still try to acquire draft picks and get younger WHILE still contending. In my opinion, middle ground can be found. You don't just have to be either REALLY good on paper or REALLY bad on paper.

I'd trade Rondo for Lowry/Dalembert. Although that seems like a steal for us.

Lowry/Thabeet + switch picks (Clips for their 1st).

I'm don't really like to trade Rondo, but getting a near all star level PG and an earlier pick i think is a fair deal for me. That I'd really do.

I'm really high on Thabeet. I don't know, it's just me. I know he's considered a bust. But I really think he will give us what we need, which is rebounds and defense. If he's just gonna be like Perk, which focuses solely on defense and rebounding he might be effective. Dude's 7'3'', athletic and long arms. It'll be tough to rebound against him. Won't give us any contribution on offense though unless it's a offensive rebound putback.

PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

I think Thabeet is too raw to help the Celtics this season but I am a fan of his as a long term project. I think he can be a solid starting center in the NBA in the mold of a Sam Dalembert.

Desperately needs playing time. I hope Thabeet ends up in a good situation next year. It's horrible seeing him rot away at the end of someone's bench. Sick of seeing him on teams who have no interest in developing him.

I really think Thabeet just needs to be given a specific role. Memphis asked too much for him, wanted him to develop as a low post scorer. Hasn't getting any playing time in Houston and I don't know why but it doesnt sound right.

I really do believe though that he will thrive here as Perk 2.0. If Doc sets his stuff straight, let him know that his role is to be an interior defensive stopper and a rebounder, without the offensive pressure he might crack the rotation. I like him as a project. He may be a bust, but I saw that athleticism, and for a guy who's 7'3'' 260 lbs, there should be some good use for that here.

it's easy to say it if you look at recent nba history and take stock of how other teams have become relevant again after losing their championship core.

they sucked for a while, and found a new savior in the draft.

Give me an example of a team that successfully followed the kind of strategy you describe and seamlessly went from one championship core to another without having at least one or two years of total mediocrity.

Cmon, Kevin Martin's skeletal structure is made of glass. For the love of god no more trade ideas involving injury prone players for our all stars.

The Gasol for Rondo trade makes much more sense though.
