Having watched both BBD and Landry A TON over the past 2 seasons, I think I'd take Baby.

This is coming from a Kings/Celtics fan by the way. Landry is one of the nicest/coolest/easy going guys in the entire league off the court. He doesnt seem like a selfish player at all.

On the court, he is a black hole. An offense stopper. I hate to even type that because he is such a nice guy and I dont think that is his intention, but when he gets the ball he rarely, if ever, gives it up. He has become wayyyy to jumper happy ( same could be said for BBD ) lately.

I cannot even tell you how many times he would catch the ball near the elbow and this sequence happened : Jab step, Jab step, Jab step, Jab step, Jab step, Jab step ( and about 5 more jab steps ) then the shot goes up. Doesnt even consider passing it to anyone else.

I say all those negative things, but he is tough, and he is a creative finisher around the basket. Very good offensive rebounder, not very good defensive rebounder. Off the bench he would help just about any team. He would help the Celtics.

But he isnt what we need. And like I said before, I like BBD more. If they are equals on offense ( and I think they are, but I still prefer BBD on offense ) .. but Davis blows him out of the water on defense. What BBD lacks in size he makes up in weight and strength. Landry has strength too, but not as much as Davis. Not to mention BBD is the charge king..

Ideally, JO and KG start, Kwame (or better, if possible) and Landry would be primary backups, and JaJuan and Green would be third options. That would be a really good interior rotation, if they're all healthy. Add Troy Murphy in a Scalabrine role (but for vet min money), and Semih as insurance for JO, and the Celtics are set in big men department.

Hate to be the one to break the news to you but Semih was traded last year to Cleveland.  The only way he's not staying in Cle (which needs a young center almost as badly as we do) is if he goes back overseas.

I think Cleveland would send Semih back for the pick they sent to the Celtics. Cleveland is rebuilding, and Semih was reported being homesick, or with family matters in Turkey, so Cleveland would probably value the pick higher. And if you remember the deleted scene from "The Association" documentary, you can tell he'd be happy to be back in green.

As much as I like Semih, Ajinca would also work as insurance, as well as the big guy from NO, Aaron Gray. But Semih would be nice.

Wow... I have watched a few Landry games, but I've watched every Celtics game this past season, and BBD sometimes plays so selfish he could make a cat look generous.

Baby is "the Big Blackhole Davis" or the "Big Lazy", depending on the match. He's been through some injuries, but his problem is mental. He thinks he's better than he is.

Landry may be selfish, but he fights through his lack of height and he gave trouble to the Lakers in the playoffs. Baby gave trouble to the Celtics instead, refusing to pass the ball, not boxing out and chucking shoots as if he was the only option on offense.

Landry over BBD any day of the weeek, and twice on sunday. But like some have said, he's not worth the MLE, the Celtics need a Big Center to defend in the post and get rebounds. But through a S&T, Landry could get almost MLE money, and he'd be worth 3-4 mil on a one or two year contract.

Sign him up Danny! Carl Landry is not only a sparkplug off the bench, but a rebounding MACHINE!

He can also pass extremely well (he's got a handful of triple doubles) and put the ball in the basket (from close range only).

He's an extremely safe sign, and probably wouldn't demand the moon. He's a humble Glen Davis that would be thankful for an opportunity to play in the vicinity of the Big 4.

If Danny traded that pick back to Cleveland he's a fool.  That's a high second round pick in a very deep draft where I have no doubt he'll get someone better than Semih.

Ajinca or Gray are young centers that are ok options for plugging into the equation this year.  I wouldn't tie them up in longterm deals though.

Actually, no. It's you who forgets how mediocre Landry has been.

He has had exactly one decent season (not two, gotta be more careful reading the career stats), in which he averaged 16 ppg overall while playing a ton of minutes. Outside of that, he's been a 10-12 ppg player for most of his career.

Davis is a better defender in his sleep, and they're about the same in terms of rebounding.

Davis fights through his lack of height and has given multiple very good teams problems in the playoffs. Of course, the average Celtics fan appears to have the memory span of a goldfish, therefore I am anything but surprised to see comments like this one here.

LOL man I would take Landry> Davis wit the quickness the playoffs and his quotes over the summer pretty much did it for me lol @ Landry being mediocre dude has a similar offensive game to Davis (midrange jumper, post game) except he's more athletic if we can do a sign nd trade for nd dump somebody who doesn't wanna be here I would look at it as a no brainer

While this is true, it all comes down to the cap.  Based on the old CBA, the C's are looking at a situation where they can sign Baby without using any of the MLE, or they can use a large portion, if not all of the MLE to sign Landry. 

That right there gives Davis a big edge.

Well, about Davis, I liked him over Powe because of his skills when the Celtic Nation was debating between the two. But I've come to not like him, you're right, and that's because how he's played the last two seasons.

The last time Davis gave trouble to a playoff team was in the Orlando series in the 2009 playoffs. He was great against Howard, and he hit that buzzer-beater. He had one or two good games in the 2010 playoffs (against the Cavs and one in the Finals... game 4), and this year he's been out of shape and out of his game.

I hate my memory because sometimes I tend to remember the good BBD, but he's been missing. And in case we have to measure him by his play two years ago, I'll take the 2009 Troy Murphy over the 2009 Baby.

I should have worded it differently. I dont necessarily think we should get landry but I do think Baby's current attitude isnt conducive to success going forward, this season coming or in the future. Not a knock on what baby has done for the celtics previously or him as a player, but its probably best for both parties if baby left and someone else, far more committed, took his spot.
