First off, I'd like to congratulate myself on creating the billionth Jeff Green thread.

Joking aside, I'm interested to see what people have to say about this:

I understand that they're not mutually exclusive, but do people think the Perkins - Green trade is more motivated by finance and continued success or is it just a basketball decision?

I keep it being said elsewise - but I honestly think that its a basketball decision by Danny. I think he feels better about Shaq, Jermaine and BBD filling the center spot, then to go into the playoffs with Perk but w/o a backup swing.

But everywhere else I read that its a financial move made in order to continue long term success. I won't disagree that it is, but I stand by thinking that the move was a basketball decision - right or wrong.

It was just a move that made sense.

Why try to label it?

I don't think finances had anything to do with it ... Jeff Green is going to command just as much as Perk would have this summer.

There is no difference financially.

Both played a part. It was probably more of a basketball decision, but the fact that we were able to get rid of Nate's $4.5M owed next season ($9M savings if you count luxury tax) and that Green is a restricted free agent both played a role I think.

Because I've read a decent amount of people questioning why the Celtics wouldn't keep Perk and "go with it" because "the window is closing."

not really, Green is restricted, so he gets tendered and plays next year for what 5 mill approx.  Then the CBA changes (very likely)  and player salaries get cut ( likely) with the cap going further down  making a chance that a guy like Green isn't worth what he might be worth today.  It could be less, and hey if he wants too much a year from now you can always trade him again,  I 'm sure his value will just as good next trade deadline as this year's, espically with an expiring deal.
