The pressure's now on Green to elevate his game defensively and on the glass in a Boston system that's infinitely more complex than OKC.

It's happened before, with Ray Allen.

I like the drastic improvement in athleticism, the addition of a drastically underutilized 3 man, and the clear benefits his bench time will provide to two of our best players going into the playoffs. The third factor cannot be overstated.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Doc will be able to say to everyone on the team "Since you won't have him around....I mean since you will some day have to play AGAINST Perk you will all need to learn how to defend yourselves. We have brought in a crack team of Muhammed Ali, Mr. T, a woman that gave birth 15 times, Hulk Hogan, that feisty senior citizen down the street that has no fear of anything or anyone, a former Vietnam green beret that has personally killed people with his own hands, Dick Butkus, and God help us we paid a lot of money to bring in Bill Lambier.  If you want to survive your next game with the Thunder.....you'll listen to everything these people have to say"

I would imagine we have smaller trade exceptions for Erden and Luke as well - for what that's worth

It's not worth much if anything at all, as they were minimum salary players and

Minimum Salary Exception: Teams can sign players for the NBA's minimum salary even if they are over the cap, for up to two years
.

But I'm pleasantly surprised that they got an early 2nd round for those two. That's also a positive, definitely.

How will our offense function without all of Perk's illegal screens and moving picks?

The best news was Danny didn't have anymore healthy centers to trade.

Danny didn't trade healthy centers.  Perk was out with an injury and Semi has been banged up all year.

LOL.  We were better with Shaq.

I did love Perk though.

Oh, I forgot to say to the OP... thanks for this thread.  tp.

I'm really excited about Jeff Green.  He'll definitely help the bench.

Positive side? How about the fact that we are MUCH better for at least half of every game... Offensively, it was tough having Perk and Rondo on the court at the same time. Assuming Murphy signs, we are can surround Rondo with shooters and slashers.

Green was a number #5 (Celtics) pick. Is clear that Danny knows things that we do not or that may be fairly obvious. Namely:
- Pierce is a warrior but may be hurting and definitely needs less minutes to get healthy.
- Danny is not worried about Dwight any more and more worried about the heat.
- Match ups with Lakers may also improve if we can get Toy Murphy.

Also Doc is very familiar with Jeff Green, his son played with him for a couple of years at Georgetown

  He traded a healthy center?

That's right. Perk was going to miss 2 or 3 games. I forgot.

You know I always thought the same thing, that the Celt's defensive system was really complicated. However, every time a new guy joins the team (most recently hearing this from JO), they say that the defensive schemes are really simple. They are just predicated on effort and focus (like any defense).

It is Doc's offense that takes alot of time to get down. There is alot of timing involved.

I agree with your second point completely. I also basically agree with your first point but players on the team seem to disagree.

Good points....and I'm envisioning a potential matchup with LA, with Green matched up with Artest at SF? He has 2 inches advantage on Ron Ron

Advantage? Celtics.

Place Green at PF in a matchup with Gasol? Still advantage Green. In the Celtics System, I think Doc would allow Jeff to pull Gasol outside, where I think JG would have a Field Day with Gasol. He's much too slow to deal with the young 6'9" PF/SF.

In OKC's system, Jeff was matched up with Gasol in many post situations, where of course he'd look bad. Gasol punishes nearly everyone in that traditional setting.

Pull Gasol's older, slower-footed frame outside, like JG can do with his deep threat and quickness?

Advantage Green.

I will Always miss Perk, but I believe Danny knows what he's doing here.
