I think Doc will try it (assuming Wafer makes the team).  I also think that Doc will leave Ray out there with the second team a lot, and will use him as the de facto backup SF, much like he did at times last season.

I don't think there's any question Wafer will make the team. Same goes for Delonte, so that shouldn't be an issues.

I think it's definitely a question.  The front page has a link mentioning Wafer going to China if cut.  It's been mentioned that Danny told Wafer that he has a short leash.  The team seems to like Tony Gaffney.

I'd prefer that the Celts keep Wafer, but if he's cut, it wouldn't shock me at all.

With Daniels' injury history and Scal's departure, Gaffney definitely has a shot, especially if Bradley has a great camp and makes Wafer look expendable.

Still, it's hard to see the C's valuing Gaffney's hustle and defensive role-playing potential over Wafer's proven ability to shoot and score in bunches, especially with all the floor spacing issues this team has struggled with.

Honestly, I'd actually love to see Bradley outplay Wafer in training camp. At least that would mean he has some legit NBA talent. (Not saying he doesn't now, we just don't know for sure yet.)

I still couldn't see them cutting Wafer though.. Gaffney's gonna have to have one amazing camp to make the team and prove he's developed that jumpshot he tweeted about.

Considering that Bradley is still supposed to be nursing his ankle I don't think his chances of having a great camp are all that high.

a line-up of Nate, West, Daniels, BBD and Shaq

How about a line-up of West, Wafer, Daniels, BBD, and Jermaine

That is my prediction for the primary 2nd unit.

Shaq starts and Nate unfortunately gets left out.  That is one of the side-effects of depth, someone gets left out.

Nate will be known as Trade Bait - Nate by mid season.

The lack of a plan B at the 3 for the celtics this year really worries me.  Unless Luke can slim down some  ;D

I think Nate is going to have a decent role.  He might average around 9 points in 15 minutes or so.  I actually like the pressure and energy when paired with Rondo for a few minutes here and there.  Yes Rondo will have to guard a two, but what two can guard Rondo or Nate?
And remember- not only is West starting the year with a suspension, but he seems to break fingers or miss time for personal reasons every year.

Is there any chance Doc will decide to go with Von Wafer as the second unit's small forward? I was just thinking about it today and we played Tony Allen a good amount at SF. That actually worked surprisingly well at times. I know Wafer isn't know as a defensive stopper like TA was but they're both built in similar ways and have similar athleticism.

I know we don't typically send out five bench players at the same time but the thought of a Robinson/West/Wafer/Baby/Shaq second unit had me drooling. That's a pretty darn well rounded unit to be sporting out there for times. Loaded with shooting, aleticism and even some post scoring.

And can you imagine the screens/picks that Davis and Shaq would be setting for open threes and midrange shots? No would would be able to get around the two of them.

Am I just day dreaming here or is this a legitimate option for us? Marquis Daniels just isn't going to do it for us, I don't think and neither will Harrangody.. What other choice do we have?
Yes, when Marquis gets hurt again.  Wafer isn't the best option, but at least he can shoot.  You've got to remember that Tony Allen is a lot stronger than your average SG and his superior defense made him less of a liability at the 3.  Wafer might be able to stay in front of quicker SFs, but I'd like to see us go to Harrangody on the bigger 3s.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Is a tough call. Would love to be able to put Delonte, Wafer and Daniels on the floor at the same time. To me Nate is the one that may ultimately be expendable. I just don't see him sticking, in fact I could do without the Shrek and Donkey thing altogether. Would much rather have Bradley and Harangody make a splash.
