Desmond Mason peaked out years ago. He was a decent player at one time but his numbers have fallen precipitously. He will be lucky to get a 10 day contract in the NBA this year. He should look for a job overseas if he thinks he can still play.

for those interested in the career stats of one Desmond Mason (or if you are thoroughly bored).

TP. Was going to post the same thing.
This is why Desmond Mason is NOT a perfect Tony Allen replacement, and in fact, he'd be pretty terrible. Tony Allen had a drtg of about 101. Means that when Tony Allen is in the game, opposing teams score approximately 101 points per 100 possessions (league average is about 106). Desmond Mason is in the 111 range. In fact, we only have Tony for defensive purposes, and most people following desmond masons career know how bad of a defender he is, despite his athletic gifts. Granted, he was in Sacremento last year, so his lousy defense isn't all his fault, but he has a career drtg of 109, including one of 110 when he was in Seattle BEFORE handchecking (when points per possession league average was about 100).

Worse is, Desmonds offense (97 ortg) is pretty bad too.

He'll turn 33 once the season starts. I'd pick someone a little younger who can defend, or at least not get destroyed, by the Kobe's and Lebrons of the world.

If only Thabo was available.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I'm not sure who would be worse, Mason or Larry Hughes...
