Option 1:
I'd work the phones with Portland and NY. NY wants to give up Chandler for Rudy? Portland wants a future 1st instead of Chandler? I'd tell them this is the deal on the table:
NY gets Rudy
Portland gets Glen Davis and 2011 1st rounder
Boston gets Cunningham, Chandler, Pendergraph, with an understanding that, being over the roster limit, Pendergraph will be cut and can return to Portland in 30 days (he's on a minimum contract anyway...he doesn't even need to make the flight to Boston).
Option 2:
If Portland was not budging, and wanted a better first rounder, I'd call Memphis:
-So, Wallace, the 12th round rookie slot is too expensive for you? Here are some options. (note-it's a little tricky because Bradley has signed a contract, so he has a salary, while Henry is just no-money rights)
Lineup:
Rondo/Nate/Bradley
Allen/Daniels/Wafer
Pierce/Chandler
KG/Chandler/Cunningham/Harangody
Shaq/JO/[Perk]/Erden
1. Bradley for Haddadi or Darell Arthur or Demarre Carrol and Henry's rights. Yeah, it's basically a swap of 12th and 19th picks, but you clearly have some buyer's remorse and don't want to pay 12th pick money to back up Rudy Gay; how about 19th pick money to back up Conley/May?
Lineup:
Rondo/Nate
Allen/Daniels/Wafer
Pierce/Henry
KG/Davis/Harangody
Shaq/JO/[Perk]/Erden/Haddadi
2. Davis and future first for Henry's rights, Haddadi, and Memphis's choice of Demarre Carroll, Sam Young, or Darell Arthur. Boston would only be able to keep Henry plus one other player roster-wise, so one of those other players would be cut; they're just salary filler.
Lineup:
Rondo/Nate/Bradley
Allen/Daniels/Wafer
Pierce/Henry
KG/Arthur-or-Carrol/Harangody
Shaq/JO/[Perk]/Erden
Option 3.
I'd move on to Phoenix. I'd tell them they have Childress, Clark, Hill, Dudley, Richardson, Turkoglu, as true sg/sf's plus Janning, Griffin, and Lawal, all of whom can play SF or SG. I'd remind them that their real bigs are Frye, Lopez, and Warrick...Not exactly a big group of tough bangers (outside of lopez, who has had injury issues. So I'd offer them Davis for Dudley straight up (they have a trade exception) or Davis for Dudley and Griffin if they didn't want to dip into their exception. I'd then offer the vet min to Amundson, Joe Smith, Ike Diogu, in that order.
Lineup:
Rondo/Nate/Bradley
Allen/Daniels/Wafer
Pierce/Dudley
KG/Amundson-or-Joe Smith-or-Ike Diogu/Dudley/Harangody
Shaq/JO/[Perk]/Erden
Option 4.
Call Toronto, see if they'd bite on Davis for Julian Wright, then go after the same PF trio:
Lineup:
Rondo/Nate/Bradley
Allen/Daniels/Wafer
Pierce/Wright
KG/Amundson-or-Joe Smith-or-Ike Diogu/Harangody
Shaq/JO/[Perk]/Erden
Option 5.
Failing those, I'd offer the vet min in the following order:
-Carney
-Simmons
-Hayes
-Wilkens
-Udoka
-Tim Thomas
-Stackhouse
These are nice Vermont Fan.
I would like to add another proposal involving the Wizards:
Bradley for Thornton straight up.
or better yet:
Big Baby, Bradley, Erden, Lafayette and cash (to buy out the last two) for Yi Jianlan and Al Thornton. I would even throw in a Boston first rounder for a Washington 2nd rounder in 2011 if needed.
Thornton is a nice Power 3 talent that will slip right into our rotation behind PP for up to 25-30 mpg. We can slide PP to SG against certain matchups to give Ray more rest and minimize use of Daniels and Wafer. He can start at the 3 if PP needs a night off and play big minutes in blowouts. We can also use him at the PF in smaller lineups.
YI is a longshot talent still in my book, but he is long and can shoot. If he doesnt work then it is only for one year, if he does then we have a nice PF talent to ease into KG's spot a few years down the road.
I like your Dudley proposal better, but Al Thornton isnt a bad consolation prize.
