The Thruth shall set you free - Just in case you haven't read Paul Pierce piece:
Pierce’s simple math: Additions must come
http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2010/07/16/pierces_simple_math_additions_must_come/

excerpts:
“Sometimes, I’m sitting here and I’m looking at all these players sign and I wish we’d get on the ball a little bit,’’ “I knew after the season I wanted this team to get better knowing we didn’t win the championship, and that’s why I opted out and took less money for this team to improve,’’ Pierce said.

“They definitely boosted their talent,’’ Pierce said. “Them, with the Lakers, are going to be considered the favorites and I think with the moves that they made, a lot of teams are going to really try to counter, when they think about adding their pieces. Especially teams at the top, such as ourselves and Orlando.’’
There are countermoves still to be made, Pierce said, but at this stage in free agency, the talent pool is much thinner.

“Right now, it’s slim pickings out there. It may have to happen via trade. But in free agency, I think a lot of guys have really jumped on where they’re going to be at. It’s difficult, but I’m sure at some point this summer I’ll put my hand in there somewhere.’’

We all know what Pierce said. We also agree that our team is not much better yet. If you are going to keep posting in this thread you had better start posting what you would have done if you were Danny
You mentioned one trade with TA and Quis. What specifically could we have goten for them? Sign and trades are difficult. You really need to be specific. Danny has been handcuffed this offseason. It is the expense of putting together a championship roster. I like his draft picks so far. I like the JO signing. He wanted TA back but Tony didnt want to play here anymore.

It is not over. We can trade Sheed's contract which is a huge asset. We need patience on this front though. We do not need to knee jerk react to a Matt Barnes signing.

Also, you really think we will be lucky to make the playoffs or did you just want to elicit angry responses?

Not to mention, I could care less what Pierce wants to build a better team. Ainge is the GM not Pierce, and thank God for that.

The offseason certainly hasn't gone particularly well...not matching on Tony was a bit puzzling and we weren't even able to convince a decent free agent to take a pay cut to come play in Boston like we have in the past. Is that Danny's fault? You can't blame him for not getting a Bosh or anything, obviously. But consider the Lakers signed Blake/Barnes....two players that would've been very useful for the C's. Consider the Heat's many vet minimum signings that were excellent. We couldn't recruit Mike Miller who took about the MLE to play with the Heat.

On our bench, between 'Quis and Jermaine, that's about 40 guaranteed injury-riddled games for them.

Quote
The summer is not over. Training camp does not start this week.

This is very true - but it's not like there's a plethora of options left. If Shaq is the best we can do for Sheed's contract....

Okay, time to stop being negative.

If you were going to take a pay cut to play ball, where would you rather be living between October and April if the salary was the same, Miami, Los Angeles or Boston? If it was me, I'ld be in South Beach!!!!

Please list the parade of free agents who took a pay cut to play in Boston.

No point in crying, as any relative normal poster said- so far this is the best DA could do. I think that after the flood of "how to sign LeBron" threads you don't need more explanations on how salary cup works.

Bottom line is- once you get a solid championship contender there is no room for major upgrades beside min vets and MLE. J o'neal was by far best option we had for using MLE, big man was not a desire, it was a must to sign as soon possible.

Yes, teams did get better, teams that were nowhere past season.
Miami is in the same theme as we are now for the next 4-6 years, Any future signing for them will be either MLE or vet min with exception of few trades which rarely get you big names (there are only few Gasols per decade you can get for free).

After serious threat that after heartbreaking loss we would end up "rebuilding" (read as= mediocre team) for next few years this is huge sucees.

Let's not forget that at time of his quote we had only signed JO. Since then we've re-signed Daniels and Nate. While they might not be stars, I'm sure those signings would soften Pierce's tune, since when he said that there was no guarantee either would be back.
