we're talking about the same Tony Allen that goes for every upfake right? The guy who blew a game against the pistons at the garden in 08 when he fouled Billups after going for an upfake on the last play of the game. Afterwards Billups said he saw coming out of the time out that they were putting TA on him so he told his teammates that he would upfake him and draw the foul. That Tony Allen?

I'm actually not much of a Tony Allen supporter, but this is another comment I got a problem with. Yes, Tony had an issue in the past with head fakes, but at the same time, you're pointing out one instance in his career like it was every game. Didn't see him bite on too many headfakes in the finals against Kobe. In fact, it was amazing how well he stayed grounded on him.

Again, not a huge fan of TA. But I think that comment completely misrepresents his defensive ability.

Tony' D was awesome but I cringed whenever he touched the ball offensively.

Until he plays us now he going be smothering Ray and Paul on the defensive end.

if quis can stay relatively healthy, he gives us close to the defense TA did, and much more consistent offense. he has a jumper that can go in, he can slash, he can pass the ball, and he doesn't commit as many TOs. plus, with nate back, quis will be playing the 2 on the second unit, a spot he is much better at. TA will be missed, but if daniels can play 60+ games for us (don't forget, TA is injury-prone as well), i don't think we really lose out on much, if anything.

Would you want a sub who holds an opponent to 4 points but generates none of his own? Or a guy who holds his man to 8 points, but creates 8 of his own?

Are those the only choices? What if we end up with a player that holds his opponent to 12 points and creates 6 of his own?

By the way, Tony's scoring average (on a per minute basis) is pretty much average for the nba.

I was just throwing arbitrary numbers out there just to prove that defense isn't everything, especially when that is all you are good at.

TA's scoring average may be mediocre, but the vast majority of his buckets are set up by others. For every game he has a scoring burst (which means double digits, a few drives of his own), there are a half dozen games of nothing but kicking the ball out of bounds or some horrible pass.

Basically, he is below average on offense, very good on defense. Replacing him with a good offensive and defensive player is a gain for the Celtics.

Maybe. If TA's covering someone like Wade or LeBron or Kobe, slowing them down offensively is significantly more important than what a marginally better offensive player will mean to you.

Tony was a defensive specialist without a jump shot and with a below average basketball IQ.

He can be replaced, and he won't be heard from again in Memphis.

I'm not sure about that.  I wouldn't be surprised if another 'Chicago Incident' crops up.

Tony took 5 seconds to release a jump shot...

At a price I would have a guy like Tony be a Celtic for a career.  However he wanted more $ and minutes.  When he plays against us will I be worried he is going to hurt us (no) am I worried he will shut down Ray or Paul (no)
I would like to have him to guard Wade come playoff time besides that he is already replaced.

Heard from on the floor, that is.

Given Tony's track record, there may well be another Chicago incident.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."
