Tyrus Thomas please!

good athleticism and energy, but tt doesn't seem to have a high bball iq, which is something danny covets. he takes bad shots, stops the ball, misses the pass, and his defense is streaky.

i'd also rather have david lee if we could afford him.

David Lee would be beyond spectacular. Probably a little too pricey, though.

Then again, I think everyone with cap room is going to be way too busy with other names so maybe we could work something out.

As stated earlier very little upstairs to go with good athleticism.  The fact that no one really wants him might give the C's a chance to sign him on the cheap.

There is little chance for Lee because even though he gives up more points then he scores and has no defensive position his double double stats will inflate his salary past a nice big off the bench which is his ceiling in the NBA.

I wouldn't get too excited about him, because I think he would be tough to pry away from Charlotte for a price that is reasonable given his red flags, however, if Danny could sign him, I would be ecstatic (although still a little worried he will completely quit on them once he gets paid).

How come?

There have always been rumors of him being a dog, and having attitude problems.  He has clashed with coaches, and there have been grumblings that he doesn't love basketball, he just wants to get paid.

This quote certainly didn't help things, when he was chosen for the dunk contest a few years back:

"I'm just going to go out there, get my check and call it a day... I'm just into the free money. That's it. I'll just do whatever when I get out there."

More than that though, what worries me is his uneven play.  For a guy as talented as he is, he has not been able to sustain a high level of play for anywhere close to an entire season.  If they are giving him the entire MLE for 5 years, I would certainly be concerned that he will never be a consistent impact player.

Wasn't Tyrus Thomas one of those Bulls players who was working out every summer in Chicago? Along with Deng and Hinrich? David Thorpe was one of his coaches, right?

Tyrus has never struck me as the type to quit after a big payday. I have some concerns about him but that is not one of them.

Would you be opposed to paying Tyrus the MLE for his current level of play? If he showed no improvement over where he currently is.

I think Tyrus is already worth that contract and I would be happy enough in with that situation. Obviously, I would hope he would improve and I think it's quite likely that he does improve but I view that improvement more as icing on the cake than a necessity for the signing to be worthwhile.

I think Lee could become a mediocre defensive power forward on a quality defensive team. If he had a strong interior defender alongside him and a good perimeter defense. The improvement I would expect would mostly be down to positioning and his ability to learn team defensive schemes.

Very mediocre but, mediocre interior defenses lose a lot.  Again you are saying that if everyone else around him are great defenders he could be nice big to have.  Not my preference for a starting PF.  I would love to have him as a big off the bench though.

Would love to have him, but i think he might cost a little too much. It would be great to trade Baby for Thomas and either a wing or a pick.
