But was it worth it?  We are screwed this offseason guys.  We have zero options other than to amass a bit of scrap heap talent for one more run with a team that was too old and lacked explosiveness on offense to defeat the Lakers.

I don't think a 13 point lead in the middle of the 3rd quarter of game 7 despite losing our starting center to injury really translates to "a team that was too old and lacked explosiveness on offense to defeat the Lakers".

Yeah, the revisionist history for how well the Celtics played is baffling. The celtics this past spring were an amazing basketball team. Not OK. Not good. Amazing!

I'm not ready to go through another Acie Earl/Marty Conlon/35 wins annually era.
yeah but it is probably coming, a trade for Ray in February probably could have eliminated that possibility entirely (at least for the next few seasons), though probably would not have led to the NBA Finals this season.

Or Any season. What we would have gotten in return for Ray, was a salary dump, and nobody that would have ever lead us to the finals.

Picking up Jamison, Butler or even Martin or Ellis would have eliminated the possibility of us having a mediocre team after the Big Three leave? I doubt it. Getting a good player that's younger wouldn't hurt, but still...

If only a good trade was available at the time.

Agreed. We would have got less value than he was worth as the trade deadline. While Ray didn't have the best series against LA. We wouldn't have got games 7 of the championship without him.

Ray Allen was instrumental in almost winning us a championship.  People fall too much in love with the idea of "rebuilding".  Most rebuilding teams stink, and never get close to a championship.  With Ray, we were about 6 minutes away from one.

We should have if Ellis was available which I don't he was so no it was the right plan to keep him.  Hopefully Ray's no show in every game except game 2 of the Finals puts his salary request within reason.
