get physical with him and he starts to press and disappear...sheed got in his mental kitchen

Truth. Howard would much rather talk to his "alter-ego". Him and Lebron are very similar, it seems, but I will take Howard over Lebron.  :D

Also, TP for Frezz for pointing out Rondo's improving jumpshot getting no respect.

I think the commentator is reading way to much ESPN fluff and should get a clue about what good defensive teams do to take Howard out of the game. Van Gundy said it. If it was any other team they would be running two or three guys at Howard from different directions whenever he got the ball down low and that plays to the Magic's inside out game. They WANT you to double and triple Howard.

But Boston, unlike just about any other team in the league, plays Howard one on one with players that use great lower body strength and physical play to push him out of his comfort zone and take away his kick outs for three point shots. Van Gundy went on to say that of the teams still playing, Boston was the most physical and playing the best ball and he thinks they have to be happy with anyone they have to play in the playoffs because of their strengths down low and tough team mentality.

Kudos to the coach for stating what most people won't because he sees it like an NBA coach.

Again, people are taking JVG's comments way out of context.

Dwight Howard: -10 +/- for the game.

Marcin Gortat: +8 +/- for the game.

Its a flawed stat, but in a game that your team never led in I think its somewhat telling, especially since Howard was the one in for the 4th quarter when his teammates stepped it up (improving his plus/minus artificially).
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Are you saying I am?

Well, I suppose I am... but then you mention Van Gundy in the same sentence, so I think you're just reacting to the comments made in this thread.

But you know what, I'm re-reading the thread and I might be the one who is in the wrong.

I was assuming we were talking about when JVG mentioned we weren't showing Howard any respect, and that was more of a critic on Howard's poor offensive post game and how the Celtics were effectively making him ineffective by playing him one on one and then fouling when he gets good position. Nothing about it being disrespectful or wrong or any of that notion.

Was there another instance where disrespect was mentioned that I'm missing?

I could care less how Breen, who I think is the one that brought the "disrespect" word out, used it. He needs to get a clue. Disrespect has nothing to do with how the C's play Howard.

Van Gundy said it. He said the C's play Howard one on one, take away his shooters on the outside and then force him out of his comfort zone and when he tries to take it in foul him.

That's just smart basketball and the C's have the bodies and the brains to pull it off. It has nothing to do with disrespect but then again how would Breen know as he's just another ABC/ESPN/TNT, NBA superstar butt kissing, talking head.

What I'm saying was that it was JVG himself that mentioned they weren't respecting Howard's game... which is why I'm currently confused.

Then Mark Jackson mentioned that Howard needs a better polished game. Then JVG said, "that's what I said, the Celtics aren't showing any respect to his game".

So, are we actually talking about that situation? Or was it something that I missed, another instance? Because if it was the JVG thing, I think this thread is taking it out of context. If it isn't, then I'm just going to shut up and agree with you guys.
